Event:Wiki Loves Public Domain/About

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Scope

[edit]

Wiki Loves Public Domain is an initiative aimed at increasing content from and about creators whose works are in the public domain or are entering it. This project will enrich Wikimedia platforms by focusing on the documentation and promotion of public domain cultural heritage. By doing so, it contributes to the visibility and accessibility of freely usable works and the people behind them.

The initiative has the form of a Wiki Loves-style competition, inspired by successful past campaigns such as Wiki Loves Monuments. The competition is scheduled to run in the last quarter of 2025, engaging the global Wikimedia community in a coordinated effort to celebrate and preserve public domain contributions.

The project is split into activities on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata. Wiki Loves Public Domain has challenges and competitions for each of these Wiki projects.
