Wiki Oto is a campaign dedicated to improving the representation of African women on Wikidata. The name Àrà-Ọ̀tọ̀ means “unique” in Yoruba, reflecting the campaign’s aim to highlight the unique achievements and contributions of African women.

Organised in collaboration between Wiki Loves Women and Africa Wiki Women, the Wiki Oto 2026 will run from 25 August to 26 September 2026 and will focus on the theme Women in Politics. Participants from around the world are invited to create and improve Wikidata items about African women involved in politics, public life and political movements, helping make their contributions more visible and accessible through Wikimedia’s free knowledge ecosystem.

Theme: Women in Politics

[edit]

The 2026 edition focuses on African women in politics.

Participants can contribute by creating or improving Wikidata items about women who have played a role in political life, including, for example:

  • Politicians and elected representatives
  • Heads of state and government
  • Ministers and government officials
  • Political activists and leaders
  • Women involved in political movements
  • Women who have contributed to public policy and governance
  • Historical figures who played significant political roles

Contributions should focus on improving the quality and completeness of Wikidata, using reliable sources whenever possible.
