Event:Wiki for Combating Health Misinformation and Disinformation in Akwa Ibom and Rivers State
Overview
[edit]Health misinformation and disinformation continue to pose significant risks to public health, particularly in communities where access to credible health information is limited. The Wiki for Combating Health Misinformation and Disinformation in Akwa Ibom and Rivers State project aims to bridge this gap by empowering young people, particularly medical and health science students, to become informed advocates for accurate health knowledge through the use of Wikimedia projects.
This initiative seeks to promote health literacy, enhance access to reliable online information, and build a sustainable network of young Wikimedia editors focused on combating misinformation and disinformation.
Project scope
[edit]This project will be implemented across two key institutions:
- Rivers State College of Nursing Sciences, 22 Emekuku street Dline, Port Harcourt
- Wikimedia User Group Nigeria - Akwa Ibom Network
Each institution will host:
- In-person workshops for awareness and hands-on Wikimedia training.
- Online follow-up sessions to deepen engagement and sustain participation.
- Edit-a-thons where participants will create and improve Wikipedia articles addressing health misinformation and disinformation in Nigeria.
