    The Wikimedia Gombe Network and University of Nigeria, Nsukka is excited to commemorate Wikidata's 12th birthday with a series of impactful events aimed at raising awareness about climate change, environmental health, and the role of open data in fostering sustainable development. This month-long celebration will not only highlight the importance of Wikidata as a global platform for free and structured knowledge but also focus on how data can be leveraged to address pressing environmental challenges.
    Our event lineup includes:

    • Interactive Wikidata workshop
    • A climate and environmental health seminar with expert speakers
    • A month-long data contribution competition on Climate Change and Environmental health.
    • A community discussion and networking event to celebrate Wikidata's birthday

    Participants will engage in hands-on editing sessions to add valuable climate and environmental data to Wikidata, enhancing its role as a resource for research, advocacy, and education.

    Through this event, we aim to empower our community with the skills to contribute to Wikidata while emphasizing the importance of environmental data for informed decision-making. Join us in celebrating 12 years of Wikidata, as we continue to build a future where open knowledge drives global solutions.

    In celebration of Wikidata's 12th birthday, we’re excited to announce a month-long online data contribution competition from October 15 to November 15, 2024! This competition aims to boost climate and environmental health data on Wikidata, encouraging participants to contribute valuable information.

    Prizes:

    • 1st Place: ₦30,000 worth of vouchers
    • 2nd Place: ₦25,000 worth of vouchers
    • 3rd Place: ₦20,000 worth of vouchers
    • 4th Place: ₦15,000 worth of vouchers
    • Newest Editor Award: ₦10,000 worth of vouchers for the most active new contributor

    Top contributors will be evaluated based on the quality and quantity of their edits, with winners announced during our closing event on November 15. Whether you're new to editing or experienced, join us to contribute and celebrate Wikidata’s mission!
