About the Event

As part of the global celebrations marking 25 years of Wikipedia, the Wikimedia community is organizing a one-day birthday celebration at Government L P School in Prakkulam, Kollam to reflect on Wikipedia's journey, celebrate community contributions, and strengthen local participation in the free knowledge movement.

Report

Online encyclopedia Wikipedia's 25th birthday celebrations were conducted at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Velliyode Kozhikode. Sreejith Koiloth, Headmaster of GHSS Velliyode inagurated the event by cutting the cake and presented it to the Little Kites Members. The event was organized in collaboration with the Wikimedians of Kerala User Group. The Malayalam version of the encyclopedia, which is available in over 300 languages, and related initiatives such as Wiki Granthasala, Wiki Chollukal, and Wiki Pathashala were introduced to the children.

The children were introduced to the importance and functioning of Wikimedia Commons, an online repository that collects free images and other educational resources. KITE Mentor Smt. Shaharbanu welcomed the children. Senior Teacher Jaya T, IT Coordinator Abdul Muneer Kalathil, Staff Secretary Asees, PET Sasidharan, and KITE Mentor Roy George led the programme. A total of 50 students and 6 teachers participated in the programme.
