As part of the global celebrations marking 25 years of Wikipedia, the Wikimedia community is organizing a one-day birthday celebration at Government L P School in Prakkulam, Kollam to reflect on Wikipedia's journey, celebrate community contributions, and strengthen local participation in the free knowledge movement.

Report

Online encyclopedia Wikipedia's 25th birthday celebrations were conducted at Govt. L.P. School, Prakkulam Kollam. Dr. Fuad Jaleel, an administrator of Malayalam wikiquotes Projects inagurated the event by cutting the cake and presented it to the school leader, Jewel Maria Joshi. The event was organized in collaboration with the Wikimedians of Kerala User Group. The Malayalam version of the encyclopedia, which is available in over 300 languages, and related initiatives such as Wiki Granthasala, Wiki Chollukal, and Wiki Pathashala were introduced to the children.

The children were introduced to the importance and functioning of Wikimedia Commons, an online repository that collects free images and other documents. Headmaster Kannan Shanmugham welcomed the children. Senior Teacher Jibi T Chacko, IT Coordinator Vrinda B.R. and Archana Ashok led the programme. 50 students and 5 teachers participated in the programme.
