As part of the global celebrations marking 25 years of Wikipedia, the Wikimedia community is organizing a one-day birthday celebration at Kottayam Public Library to reflect on Wikipedia's journey, celebrate community contributions, and strengthen local participation in the free knowledge movement.

This event brings together Wikimedians, open knowledge enthusiasts, students, and the general public to celebrate Wikipedia's impact in India and explore ways to contribute meaningfully to its future.

വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ സിൽവർ ജൂബിലി ആഘോഷങ്ങൾക്ക് തുടക്കമായി

കോട്ടയം : സ്വതന്ത്ര ഓൺലൈൻ വിജ്ഞാനകോശമായ വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ സിൽവർ ജൂബിലി ആഘോഷങ്ങൾക്ക് കോട്ടയത്ത് തുടക്കമായി. ജിമ്മി വെയിൽ‌സ്, ലാറി സാങർ എന്നിവർ ചേർന്ന് 2001 ജനുവരി 15 നാണ്‌ വിക്കിപീഡിയ പദ്ധതിക്ക് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചത്‌. 321 ഭാഷകളിൽ വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ പതിപ്പുകളുണ്ട്‌. മലയാളമടക്കം 20 ഇന്ത്യൻഭാഷകളിലും വിക്കിപീഡിയ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു. 2002 ഡിസംബർ 21 തൊട്ടാണ് ഇപ്പോഴുള്ള വെബ് വിലാസത്തിൽ മലയാളം വിക്കിപീഡിയ ആരംഭിച്ചത്. കോട്ടയം പബ്ലിക് ലൈബ്രറിയിൽ നടന്ന ചടങ്ങിൽ ലൈബ്രറി പ്രസിഡന്റ് അബ്രഹാം ഇട്ടിച്ചെറിയ ചക്കാലയിൽ കേക്ക് മുറിച്ച് ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം വില്പന ചരക്കായ കാലത്ത്‌ എല്ലാവർക്കും വിജ്ഞാനം സ്വതന്ത്രമായി ലഭ്യമാക്കുന്നതിൽ വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ ശ്രമം വിപ്ലവകരമാണെന്ന് അബ്രഹാം ഇട്ടിച്ചെറിയ പറഞ്ഞു. കാലഹരണപ്പെട്ടുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന പഴയ പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ ഡിജിറ്റൽ രൂപത്തിൽ സംരക്ഷിക്കാൻ ഷിജു അലക്സും ടോണി ആന്റണിയും സംഘവും നടത്തുന്ന ശ്രമങ്ങൾ അഭിനന്ദനാർഹമാണ്, അതിന് എല്ലാ സഹായവും തന്റെ ഭാഗത്ത് നിന്നുണ്ടാവുമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ 25ആം വാർഷികത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് ഒരാഴ്ചക്കുള്ളിൽ മലയാളം വിക്കിപീഡിയയിൽ 25 ലേഖനങ്ങൾ സൃഷ്ടിക്കാനും വിക്കിബുക്സിൽ 25 പുസ്‌തകങ്ങൾ ചേർക്കാനും തീരുമാനിച്ചു.

വിക്കിപീഡിയൻ ടോണി ആന്റണി , ലൈബ്രറി സെക്രട്ടറി കെ സി വിജയകുമാർ, മാദ്ധ്യമ പ്രവർത്തകനും വിക്കി ഉപയോക്താവുമായ സിദ്ദിഖ് കാപ്പൻ, ശ്രീനാഥ്‌ സദാനന്ദൻ, വിക്കിപീഡിയൻ വിഷ്ണു, ലൈബ്രറി ജീവനക്കാർ എന്നിവർ സംബന്ധിച്ചു.
