About the Event

As part of the global celebrations marking 25 years of Wikipedia, and 25 years of Drupal, the Wikimedia community and Drupal Community in Thiruvananthapuram and FSUG TVM is organizing a birthday celebration to reflect on Wikipedia’s journey, celebrate community contributions, and strengthen local participation in the free knowledge movement.

This event brings together Wikimedians, Drupal community volumteers, open knowledge enthusiasts, students, educators, and the general public to celebrate Wikipedia’s impact in India and explore ways to contribute meaningfully to its future.

Wikimedians of Kerala User Group, DrupalTVM and FSUG TVM organized an event at ICFOSS in Thiruvananthapuram to celebrate 25 years of Drupal and Wikipedia, both started in 2001. 45 participants including developers, students participated in the event to honor this history of open source and open knowledge.

The event started at 4:30 PM with registration. Alka Elizabeth from TheDropTimes gave welcome speech. Dr. Sunil Thomas Thonikuzhiyil, ICFOSS Director, spoke next. He said open source needs more local support in Kerala.

Sebin Jacob from DrupalTvm talked about Drupal's past and future. Mujeeb Rahman from Wikimedians of Kerala User Group looked back at Wikipedia's 25 years and how it has made knowledge available to all. He pointed out the importance of content in regional languages like Malayalam. He also stressed community involvement to build the free knowledge movement. Rahman produces IB Computing, a Malayalam tech video channel, and has long supported free software and open knowledge.

Anish A announced "Drupal in a Day" to teach beginners quickly. Kala Jayan proposed "Wiki Loves Drupal" to improve Wikipedia pages about Drupal. Akhil Babu from sponsor QED42 discussed Drupal AI plans. Thomas P Thomas of Zyxware Technologies delivered felicitation speech. After that cake cutting ceremony took place. Then Tarun Udayaraj from DrupalTvm delivered the vote of thanks. After the ceremony, dinner was served for the participants.
