Add topicWHO IS READY FOR THE PARTY!?!?
[edit]I AM! Wikiguythatlikesbiology (talk) 02:51, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- HECK YES!!! Us too! Just putting the final touches on the party. It's gonna be a great one! ELappen (WMF) (talk) 19:00, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- The celebration is worth it. In a world where information is needed Wikipedia has indeed lived up to expectation. I am impressed — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tochisaga (talk) 08 January 2026 (UTC)
- Ooops. I just wrote in discussion IN WRONG PLACE! Now I can’t find to correct.
- Summary: NEWBIE editor/typo fixer. Feel so overwhelmed so mostly I just donate $ every month. I went to in person Los Angeles event 2025. So this online event I look forward to be part. I will be on YouTube for it! LAURANG2020 (talk) 08:07, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- Please advise- the event says 8-9 Los Angeles CA time. But in EVENT DETAILS: “A 15-minute pre-party, starting at 15:45 UTC, with Wikipedia trivia and birthday wishes from around the globe. Come early and get warmed up!”
- 15:45 UTC in PDT is 4 pm
- I am confused Please advise
- Is it 8AM PDT and pre party is 4 pm PDT day before? So sorry I have to ask. LAURANG2020 (talk) 08:14, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hey there @LAURANG2020! Glad you'll be joining! PST is actually 8 hours behind UTC, so the party starts at 8am PST with the pre-party beginning at 7:45am PST. Hope that helps! ELappen (WMF) (talk) 20:17, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
I am incredibly excited
[edit]Apologies if this comment is not allowed per not a forum, but I’m very excited. Fairly new to the editing space, but I’m excited Cooldood5555 (talk) 03:17, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- Glad you're excited! We're looking forward to celebrating with you and hopefully many others! Chris Koerner (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 19:57, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
Noting: ESEAP
[edit]The 15:45 UTC start will mean that most of ESEAP will be counting out the 15th and welcoming the 16th, for a few it'll already be the 16th. Gnangarra (talk) 14:11, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks @Gnangarra It's so unfortunate there's no good global time! We did move it two hours earlier than most global calls we host for exactly this reason, though I know the hour is still not great for much of ESEAP. Good news is it'll be immediately available on the same YouTube link that will be shared here, so people can watch it the following day at their convenience. ELappen (WMF) (talk) 19:24, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @Gnangarra it's unfortunately not a good timing for ESEAP but I will be hosting a watch party on 17 Jan at 4am UTC. It's in a friendlier time for ESEAP and us folks in the region can still gather and celebrate together! I will share the link here soon.

Wikipedia 25 Watch Party with ESEAP
[edit]For those who are not able to attend the live, especially for those in the ESEAP region, we are hosting a watch party on Jan 17 at 4am UTC. Join us as we celebrate the moment!
More details and registration.

Fix IANA timezone typo.
[edit]This edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
The event template uses "Asia/Katmandu", which is a misspelling. The correct IANA timezone identifier is "Asia/Kathmandu". Please update the timezone value accordingly. Sashwatvii (talk) 03:46, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- Is this in a specific translation? (Which?) — xaosflux Talk 12:34, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- This is not hardcoded anywhere on-wiki. The timezone is converted based on user browser/preference timezone. Both Katmandu and Kathmandu are supported in MediaWiki core, so this is not an issue. – DreamRimmer ■ 15:41, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- Going to say
Not done based on that. EggRoll97 (talk) 05:53, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

Time confusion
[edit]Since I live in CST/CDT, what time would that be in CST/CDT. PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS MESSAGE! Blendingintheshadows (talk) 00:31, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hello! If you go to the event page, the box at the top automatically converts for your timezone! For CDT, this party will start at 10:00am, with the pre-party countdown beginning at 9:45am. ELappen (WMF) (talk) 00:04, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
Reliance on YouTube
[edit]Please consider, for this event or in the future, to have the streaming running on/from a free platform instead of YouTube, in order to provide a real safe & inclusive space.
More info about why is this a problem here. Mind Booster Noori (talk) 17:15, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hello @Mind Booster Noori please tune in on using the main event link on the Wikimedia Foundation website, which runs on WordPress (open source) and will also have an open source chat! ELappen (WMF) (talk) 20:47, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply! Unfortunately, while the video is embedded on the Foundation website, it is youtube's video stream that is in there (instead of coming directly from owncast/being streamed by Wikimedia's servers), so the issue still exists. Mind Booster Noori (talk) 15:59, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
Link on enWP is down
[edit]The banner advertising this event (I think?) on enWP links to https://wikipedia25.org/en/?utm_campaign=wp25cn&utm_source=wp25cnin&utm_medium=in. But wikipedia25.org is misconfigured and only displays an error page. Bernanke's Crossbow (talk) 18:16, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for reporting this @Bernanke's Crossbow! This has now been addressed ELappen (WMF) (talk) 20:46, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
Invitation is wrong: I live in Canada, not America
[edit]Your invitation software is incorrectly stating that I live in America. That’s wrong. I live in Canada, and Trump hasn’t annexed us yet. I will not be joining. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 03:28, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
short and
[edit]That was very short and IMHO overly simple insider online event...
@ELappen (WMF) was there a reason for this not to be more elaborate and aspirational? Zblace (talk) 08:35, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
