[edit]This event is part of a broader Wikimedia project aimed at documenting and preserving the cultural, historical, and tourism heritage of Borno State, Nigeria. It brings together Wikimedia contributors, cultural experts, historians, photographers, and community volunteers to identify, record, and share notable heritage sites, practices, and stories from the region on Wikimedia platforms such as Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, and Wikisource.
Objectives

- Identify and document cultural and historical landmarks in Borno
- Upload quality content (photos, articles, data) to Wikimedia projects
- Engage local communities in free knowledge creation
Quality Content Ensure that all documentation is created in standard, high-quality Hausa, kanuri and language to facilitate accessibility for Hausa, kanuri and speakers.
Key Activities
[edit]Heritage photo walks and documentation in key towns and historical locations.
Wikipedia editing and translation workshops in English, Hausa, and Kanuri.
Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons upload sessions.
Storytelling and oral history recording from elders and custodians of culture.
Community engagement sessions to raise awareness of the importance of cultural documentation.
Target Participants
[edit]The project will engage the Local Wikimedia editors and new volunteers, Students and lecturers of history and culture, Local tour guides and historians, Community elders and cultural custodians, Photographers and media volunteers.
Expected Outcomes
