Organizers' Handbook
Organizing a local project for the Feminism and Folklore Writing Contest is an exciting opportunity to engage your community in the documentation of intangible cultural heritage. Below are guidelines to assist you in creating and managing a successful local project:
Phase 1: Planning & Setup
- Assemble a Team: Create a local organizing team (recommended limit: 5 people). We recommend at least one woman participant in each team to ensure diverse perspectives.
- Decide Duration: Choose your timeline. It can span both February and March, or focus on specific months like Women's History Month (March).
- Arrange additional Prizes: Collaborate with local chapters or user groups to secure additional prizes, or request a Rapid Fund grant for support.
- Create a Page: Set up a dedicated page on your local Wikipedia. Clearly outline how to contribute and link it to the main project page.(check out a sample which can be easily translated on your local wiki)
- Translate Rules: Translate guidelines into your local language. A multilingual approach fosters inclusivity and wider engagement.
Phase 2: Execution & Management
- Check Existing Campaigns: If a local campaign already exists, reach out to the current organizer to offer support or help review articles.
- Engage Editors: Use the Village Pump, mailing lists, and Site Notices to maximize awareness and encourage participation.
- Consistent Communication: Maintain a consistent call for participants throughout the campaign using various communication channels like social media, mailing lists etc.
- Tracking Tools: Choose a tool (like CampWiz, Fountain or Dashboard) to audit edits. Focus on substantial edits (>3,000 bytes) with reliable references.
- Publish Results: Once concluded, promptly update the results page in OrganiseIT tool with key statistics, achievements, and notable contributions.
