Feminism and Folklore 2026 in Gungbe

The Feminism and Folklore 2026 in Gungbe campaign aims to use the Gungbe language to share women’s stories, folk traditions, and gender-centered heritage on Wikimedia projects. The project seeks to close both the gender gap and the language gap by training new editors to write, translate, and improve Gungbe articles about women and culture.

Main change:

Making Gungbe a living language on Wikipedia by documenting women’s stories and folklore.

Challenges:

Few articles about Gungbe women or gender topics on Wikimedia projects.
Low awareness among Gungbe speakers about editing or translation.
Limited editing skills among new contributors.

Approach:

Six-day intensive training and editathon focused on feminism and folklore.
Local stories about women in songs, traditions, and oral storytelling.
Mentorship and follow-up support to build active editors.

Planned Activities

Pre-event outreach:

Announcements on Gungbe community pages, social media, and local networks.

Six-day training and editathon:

Workshops on editing, writing, and translation in Gungbe Wikipedia.
Focus on creating and improving articles about women, feminism, and folklore.

Post-event mentorship:

Experienced editors will guide new participants after the contest.
Follow-up editathons and recognition events will keep engagement active.

Detailed Program

Day 1: Introduction to Wikipedia and the Feminism and Folklore campaign.
Day 2: Editing basics and Wikimedia policies.
Day 3: Writing women’s biographies and gender topics.
Day 4: Documenting folklore and traditional culture.
Day 5: Writing competition and article improvement.
Day 6: Final review, feedback, and recognition of top contributors.

Evaluation

We will use outreach dashboard, Campwiz, and feedback forms to measure learning outcomes. Experienced editors will review created content for accuracy and quality.
