Deutsch: Das Bieler Wappen erscheint erstmals Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts auf dem Stadtsiegel und zeigt einen Mann im Waffenrock, in der rechten Hand ein Beil, in der linken ein Wappenschild mit gekreuzten Beilen. Der Historiker Heinrich Türler (1861–1933) vermutete in dieser Figur den Meier von Biel und damit den einstigen Grundherrn: Biel war ursprünglich ein Gutshof (Fronhof) innerhalb einer Herrschaft – vermutlich der Grafen von Fenis-Neuenburg –, der von einem Meier verwaltet wurde. Als Herr von Biel wurde er in den Ritterstand erhoben. Das Wappenschild mit den gekreuzten Beilen stellt noch heute das offizielle Wappen dar.
