Français : Au début du 19ème siècle, Aix-en-Provence est devenue sous-préfecture des Bouches-du-Rhône. La ville a conservé ses fonctions judiciaires traditionnelles. Toutefois, la nouvelle Constitution a radicalement modifié la conception et l'exercice de la justice et l'État Français prône l'utilité et l'économie en matière d'architecture publique.Commencée en septembre 1822, la construction du palais de justice et des prisons (qui deviendra plus tard après une profonde refonte architecturale le palais Monclar) d'Aix-en-Provence sera achevée en avril 1832.
