Summary

Description
English: This picture was in a triplet (three ones) series of Respondent Dragon I owned and collected from an Chinese antiques fair in Dalian area of China...I thought, almost from an old village people. To be very honest, I didn't know the story carved in this small jade hand-held item; meanwhile, I didn't think it was made in a piece of the valuable jade material - it's in a grey colour near the stone's nature and with a piece of 'stone skin' at the back. In the same time, I also didn't know its time.

However, I thought it was carved of the high-level liveliness by that unknown village artist , which told us an interesting and mysterious story in Chinese Culture. Therefore, I attempted to reference its imagery from an old book in Chinese culture - Classic of Mountains and Seas, which was beyond all imaginations, geographies, cultures and periods of China and world's history viewed by original East, furthermore, which could also become some original inspirations in synthetic biology for future. Carved scene lively showed: A dragon-liked creature was biting up a plant branch with two Holly Calabashes together. Meanwhile, he (or she, usually it culturally represented for male creature), attempted his best to climb throughout the clouds for... escaping someone behind (with his head backward to see the owner) ... or getting away from somewhere in a very fast speed.

Referenced creatures-recording: 1. ‘應龍’ - Respondent Dragon: Sentence: ‘大荒东北隅中,有山名曰凶犁土丘。应龙处南极,杀蚩尤与夸父,不得复上,故下数旱。旱而为应龙之状,乃得大雨。’ (Translation: In the Northeast Conner of Chaos of Wild World, there used to be a mountain named 'Hard-farming Soil-platform', god Respondent Dragon was living in its south pole. By the reason he killed Chiyou king and Kuafu giant, he can never get back to Sky-heaven. Thus, there were many times of droughts. When droughts came, if people imitated Respondent Dragon's situation to prayer, they could get rains) Analysis: In this carved jade hand-held item, the escaping situation of character and its backward eyes-touching were similar with Respondent Dragon's departure from Sky-heaven. Two Holly Calabashes could hold water for clouds' ability of raining. 2.'龍魚' - Dragon Fish: Sentence:'龙鱼陵居在其北,状如狸。一曰鰕。即有神圣乘此以行九野' (Translation:There- around the north of Mountain tomb, it lived a species of Dragon Fish, whose appearance was like a mountain cat. Or, sometimes, we called it 'giant salamander'. There used to be a holly saint who mounted it to wander around wild fields of 'night continents' of earth) Analysis: The description of Mountain Cat's head was similar with this character's one and fish's slim body with whole scales was quite with dragon's body in East World. It also occupied the ability of raining and watering. By touching with a holly saint, it could also steal Holly Calabashes for mortal world. Meanwhile, it can also climb the clouds from sky-heaven.

Over all, I thought the most possibility of it could be Respondent Dragon, which was also a given name after all.
