English: Portrait of Richard McKay Rorty (October 4, 1931 – June 8, 2007) was an American philosopher. Educated at the University of Chicago and then Yale University, he had strong interests and training in both the history of philosophy, as well as contemporary analytic philosophy, the latter comprising the main focus of his work at Princeton University in the 1960s.

Educat a la Universitat de Chicago i després a la Universitat de Yale, va tenir un gran interés i formació en els camps tant de la història de la filosofia com de la filosofia analítica, la qual va ser el seu principal focus de treball a la Universitat de Princeton en els anys seixanta.

Gran parte de su carrera estuvo centrada en el pensamiento platónico de la verdad. Sin embargo, gradualmente se puso al tanto con el movimiento filosófico estadounidense conocido como pragmatismo.
