Fundraising 2011/Translation/Old
Welcome to the 2011 Translation Hub
The 2011 Fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort. Like past fundraisers, we will rely heavily on our team of translators to translate the banners, forms, information pages, and more into different languages. We are looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project by helping translate and localize messages into their own language. Messages may not necessarily translate well, or appeal to every audience, so when translating you do not have to do an exact literal translation if you feel that you can offer a wording that achieves a similar effect, linguistically or culturally. If there's no wording that will work, leave a message on the noticeboard. Thank you in advance for your efforts for contributing to the sustainability of a remarkable pool of human knowledge - all for the purpose of sharing.

MediaWiki Extensions (Translatewiki)
[edit]Parts of the donation process use special MediaWiki extensions. These can be translated at Translatewiki.net – the wiki for translating the MediaWiki software. If you have not used Translatewiki before, see their introduction for help.
At the moment, there are two extensions to translate:
Tips
[edit]- If you're new to doing translations on Meta-Wiki, you might want to read the Translation FAQ
- We recognize that certain messages may not necessarily translate well, or appeal to every audience, so when translating you do not have to do an exact literal translation if you feel that you can offer a wording that achieves a similar effect, linguistically or culturally. If there's no wording that will work, just indicate that inside the translation request and leave a message on the talk page.
- Please annotate your translations with *** if you feel your contribution needs work or if you feel there is another that should not be used.
- Some messages are the same as (or are based on) those from previous years. You may be able to reuse some of the old translations: 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007.
- Some Wikimedia chapters have a fundraising agreement with the WMF, and handle their own fundraising campaigns in their respective countries. For information on additional work needed to complete the localisation of the fundraiser for these countries please see the translation FAQ.

Want to help?
[edit]There are several ways to help with the translation of this year's fundraiser. We have a team of translators for each language, and if you want to help out, just add your name to the list below or contact one of the coordinators for your language. You are of course also free to just translate without adding your name to the list if you wish to.
