The programme of GLAM-WIKI 2015 is now available on this website! It will be completed in detail in the upcoming weeks, and includes:

  • Keynote: Paul Keller, Director and Copyright policy advisor at Kennisland. Paul is (among others) public project lead of Creative Commons Nederland. He represents cultural institutions in the lobby for copyright reform in The Hague and Brussels.
  • Showcase: successful collaboration projects between GLAMs and Wikimedia from all over the world. Presentations are grouped by subject area, including visual arts, library projects, science and medicine.
  • Research on the impact and results of open cultural data and GLAM-WIKI collaborations.
  • Large-scale external partnerships of GLAM-WIKI (including Europeana).
  • Demonstrations of new applications and visualisation interfaces with (cultural) Wikimedia content.
  • Introductions and hands-on tutorials on various current topics and tools, including:
    • Initiating and handling media uploads to the media base Wikimedia Commons, source of images on Wikipedia;
    • The GLAMwiki Toolset, a tool for mass uploads to Wikimedia Commons;
    • Maps on Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia;
    • Wikidata, the increasingly important upcoming 'data motor' behind Wikipedia and its sister projects, supported by Google;
    • Measuring results and impact of collaborations with the Wikimedia movement.

Now is the time to book tickets, as the early bird period only runs until 27 March! Wikipedians/Wikimedians: EUR 27,50; staff of cultural institutions: EUR 80,- (early bird until 27 March) / EUR 110,-

Help photographing the area around KB and NA for Google Street View and Open Street Map

[edit]

You might think all of The Hague will be on Google Street View by now, but actually that is not the case. The area around the KB, NA and the Central Station has not yet been visited by Google. You can help KB and NA become more visible on Street View by shooting and uploading 360° Street View panoramas during GLAMwiki2015!

How it works
[edit]

Google lets people contribute to Street View by enabling user-shot so-called 360° photospheres to be uploaded to Google. If you have an Nexus Android 4.4. or iOS device (phone or tablet), or even a normal DSLR, you can help. You can read here how it works. You'll need a Google+ account for the upload. If you need any help, please contact Olaf Janssen of the KB, he'll be around for the full 3 days of GLAMwiki2015

What the results look like
[edit]

This panorama was recently shot outside the KB. On Google Maps, when dragging the yellow pegman onto the map, your panorama will show up as a blue dot, with blue indicating user-contributed panoramas (as opposed to orange dots, which have been shot by commercial photographers)

Open Street Map & Mapillary
[edit]

In addition to adding photos to Google Street View, you can also add them to Mapillary. That way the photos can be used to improve OpenStreetMap
