Angelo Monotti, pioneer of photography in Ticino. The photographs in his archive, which is part of the cantonal archive of Ticino, can be viewed in the Photographic Collections Catalogue https://www3.ti.ch/DECS/dcsu/ac/asti/cff/index.php?p=catalogo&id_catalogo=11. In 2013, the archive organised an exhibition at the then Cantonal Art Museum, accompanied by a catalogue. Eugenio Schmidhauser, a photographer from Thurgau who settled in Astano at the beginning of the 20th century, linked his name to Malcantone and the construction of the tourist image of Ticino. His photos can be viewed in the Photographic Collections Catalogue https://www3.ti.ch/DECS/dcsu/ac/asti/cff/index.php?p=catalogo&id_catalogo=43. The volume published on the occasion of the recent exhibition dedicated to him by MASI is available online at https://www4.ti.ch/fileadmin/DECS/DCSU/ASTI/Documenti/Oltre_il_Malcantone.pdf.

The State Archives Photo Library is a photographic collection (not to be confused with the archives of Ticino photographers), established around 1940 on the initiative of Carlo Rossi and has expanded over the decades. It is representative of the history of Ticino, but also of the ways in which it has been photographed and its photographers.
