What is GLAM WikiCon?
[edit]GLAM WikiCon is an international conference focused on the intersection of Wikimedia projects and the cultural and heritage sectors—Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAM). It is a space for collaboration, sharing experiences, and strengthening partnerships between the Wikimedia movement and cultural institutions.
When and where will GLAM WikiCon 2025 take place?
[edit]GLAM WikiCon 2025 will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from October 30 to November 1. The venue will be ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon.
Why was 'resilience' chosen as the theme?
[edit]The theme, “Resilience: Shaping the Future Through Community and Openness,” reflects the enduring efforts of the GLAM-Wiki community to adapt, grow, and sustain knowledge equity despite global challenges. It was selected through a collaborative process by the organizing team, inspired by the role of openness and community-based work in building sustainable partnerships and future-oriented initiatives.
Will the event be in-person, hybrid, or virtual?
[edit]GLAM WikiCon 2025 will be an in-person event. However, the organizers are exploring options for limited online participation. Sessions in the auditorium will be broadcast live with simultaneous interpretation between Portuguese and English.
What is the main language of the event?
[edit]The main language of the conference will be English. A dedicated track in Portuguese will also be held for cultural institutions and lusophone community members.
Who is organizing the event?
[edit]The event is organized by Wikimedia Portugal and Wiki Editoras Lx, in collaboration with the international Wikimedia GLAM community and with support from the Wikimedia Foundation. Sponsors include Airalo, Creative Commons, GLAM-E Lab, Goethe-Institut, Open Future, and Turismo de Lisboa.
Who is this event for?
[edit]The conference welcomes Wikimedians, GLAM professionals, researchers, educators, activists, and anyone interested in the intersections between Wikimedia and culture and heritage.
How can I register?
[edit]Registration opens on July 8 via Pretix here and remains open until September 30 or until all 300 seats are filled.
How can I find my ticket again?
[edit]From the Registration page, select "resend order link" at the bottom of the page, and enter the email address you used to register. You'll receive a link again to download your ticket.
Is there a fee to attend?
[edit]Yes. Aside from volunteers, committee members, and scholarship recipients, all attendees and participants should contribute with a fee of 95 Euros during registration. The fee will support logistical costs, refreshments and meals during the conference, and help guarantee a comfortable conference for everyone.
This fee is inline with other regional and international conferences in the Wikimedia Movement for self funded participation, including WikiIndaba, WikiCon Francophone, the Celtic Knot Wikimedia Language Conference, and Wikimania. However, this amount may be beyond your personal means or those of your organization or Wikimedia affiliate. If it is not financially feasible for you, we encourage you to consider volunteering at the conference, which allows you to participate for free. You are also welcome to contact the organizers if you require specific accommodations regarding the registration fee.
Are scholarships available?
[edit]Scholarship applications were open until June 7. Support was allocated globally with diversity criteria to ensure broad representation.
Can I propose a session, workshop, or panel?
[edit]The Call for Proposals closed on June 17. Over 180 proposals were submitted to help shape a representative program.
Can I volunteer at the event?
[edit]Yes! Volunteers can support with registration, room hosting, AV, note-taking, and more. Those who volunteer for at least 4 hours will have full access to the conference and cultural activities.
Will there be translation or multilingual support?
[edit]Translation will be provided for auditorium sessions (English ↔ Portuguese). These sessions will also be streamed live.
Will there be support for people with children?
[edit]Yes. Please contact the organizers by 15 October and share your needs (e.g. children's ages) so support can be arranged.
Is the venue accessible for people with disabilities?
[edit]Yes. Contact the organizers if you require specific accommodations.
Will there be photographers?
[edit]Yes, a photographer will be present on Friday, October 31. If you prefer not to be photographed, please request a red lanyard at registration.
Will this conference follow the Wikimedia Friendly Space Policy?
[edit]Yes. The Wikimedia Friendly Space Policy will be in effect throughout the event. Contact the organizing team anytime for support.
Will there be merchandise like t-shirts or socks?
[edit]Yes! The conference will feature live screenprinting by AtelierSER. Bring your own tote bag, jacket, or shirt and get a custom print from local artists.
How can I navigate the conference venue?
[edit]1. When you arrive at ISCTE, head to Edifício 2.
2. Go down one level via the ramp or stairs until you reach the Atrium. That’s where you’ll check in and pick up your badge.
3. Rooms 1, 2, 3, and 4 are on this same level. Coffee breaks and lunch will be served in this area. Look for the signs next to the doors indicating the rooms for your sessions.
4. The auditorium is on the 3rd floor. You can go up the ramps or take the stairs to the left of the conference check-in point in the Atrium.
5. On the ramps, follow the conference signage. After crossing the walkway, you’ll find the J. J. Laginha Auditorium on your right.
6. Please remember this is a university space, so you may encounter student traffic. Arrive early to your rooms to help the program run smoothly!

What security measures will be taken at the event?
[edit]To ensure a safe space for everyone, participants are required to follow the instructions below:
1. Once participants arriveat ISCTE, all participants must check in at the Atrium and wear their name badge at all times during the conference.
2. Room entry will require badge verification at the door. A staff member will do this for every session to ensure only registered participants are inside.
3. For sessions in the auditorium: all participants will have their bags checked by on-site security at the entrance.

[edit]Yes. There will be cultural and social gatherings to support networking and celebration.
When will the full schedule be published?
[edit]The full schedule is expected in August and will be updated on the Program page.
Will there be online or hybrid sessions?
[edit]Only the auditorium sessions will be streamed live. Other sessions will not be streamed or recorded.
Can I join a tour while in Lisbon?
[edit]Yes! All participants are welcome to join cultural tours as part of the official conference program.
What days will the tours take place?
[edit]Tours will occur before, during, and after the event: October 29 to November 2.
Do I need to register?
[edit]Yes. Tours are free for conference participants but require pre-registration. Spots are limited and first come, first served.
What kind of places will we visit?
[edit]Expect visits to museums, galleries, archives, libraries, artist studios, and public heritage sites across Lisbon.
What languages will the tours be in?
[edit]Most tours will be in Portuguese, and some will also be available in English or bilingual (to be confirmed).
Can I join more than one tour?
[edit]Yes, as long as schedules do not conflict.
Where do tours start?
[edit]Tours begin at the entrance of each institution. Please arrive 10 minutes early.
How long is each tour?
[edit]Tours last between 60 and 90 minutes. Some may run up to 2 hours (to be confirmed).
Do I need to bring anything?
[edit]Please bring your registration confirmation. We recommend comfortable shoes and a refillable water bottle.

What is the weather like in Lisbon at this time of year?
[edit]Expect mild autumn temperatures between 15–22°C.
Where is it best to stay in Lisbon?

What language is spoken in Portugal?
