Do you have any topic or area of specialization within the Wikimedia movement? (max 1000 characters) Although I'm a volunteer with little experience, over the past two years I've been able to specialize in institutional development processes in the Mexican chapter, and from that perspective, I've been able to contribute fresh ideas for governance and process management. During this time, I've been able to learn about the challenges, lessons learned, and potential improvements the movement could face.
Have you ever held any role or position, either current or past, in the Wikimedia movement? (max 1000 characters) For two years now, I have been a member of the Wikimedia Mexico board of directors, where I have been involved in institutional development, knowledge management, and process management.
Why are you interested in the interim GRDC and what can you contribute? (max 1000 characters) Supporting Wikipedia means supporting a movement that seeks the common good. In this sense, being able to contribute to this sustainability would be a great honor. I believe it is essential that this committee include diverse perspectives from all corners of the world, with a special emphasis on gender and interculturality. Therefore, we can contribute from these perspectives to a better distribution of resources that takes into account the contexts, needs, and challenges of all communities.
Please share any volunteering or professional experience relevant for the interim GRDC (role, organization, years) (max 1000 characters) I have been a volunteer in various community organizations and projects since I was 19, and since 2019, I have been working in a human rights organization. I am familiar with resource management, writing concept notes, and activity reports. My work has focused on building new narratives and communicating
Describe your skills and experience relevant to the interim GRDC (max 1500 characters) Throughout my professional experience, I have developed various professional and personal skills such as assertive communication and mediation, which I consider useful for being part of this committee.
Describe your understanding of the Wikimedia Movement's current resource distribution process. (max 1500 characters) The distribution of Wikimedia movement funds must have a gender and intercultural approach that takes into account the contexts, needs, and different types of impact that funds can have in local settings. These funds must not only be equitable but also consider the historical gaps and oppressions that some groups have experienced throughout history. They must also seek the effective participation of different communities and diverse forms of participation. In addition, this committee should promote collaboration between chapters with common interests.
How do you think the GRDC could improve the current situation and which priorities do you think it should have? (max 1500 characters) GRDC should first improve The Wikimedia Funds communication channels with its various members, so that applications, reporting, and feedback have a clear path for everyone. It should also create effective participation channels so that all members know where, how, and when to resolve their questions without relying on a single person. Both processes should have inclusive approaches for the different languages and needs of these members. They should also implement evaluations that consider the differentiated impact of funds depending on the context of the affiliates.
By the end of the pilot in two years, what should the GRDC have accomplished and how should we measure its success? (max 1500 characters) GRDC implemented clear pathways for members to request funding and generate reports. Members also received at least one training course on how to use the funding request and reporting platforms. Affiliates, together with the committee, developed an evaluation system that considers their local contexts and includes gender and intercultural approaches.
