Event overview[edit]

Purpose and vision Please give a brief description of the event you are planning. What do you hope to accomplish during the event? Why is this event important for your community?

We are planning to organize a 3 days Wikicamp for experienced and new Wikipedians of Nepal. The camp is mainly for the Nepali, Maithili, Doteli, Newari (Nepal Bhasha), Bhojpuri and Sanskrit language Wikipedians. We also plan to add 2 incubator projects (Marwari and Awadhi) Wikipedians for the Wikicamp. The main aim to organize the Wikicamp to increase the Wikimedia offline activities in Nepal, develop skill to the new Wikipedians and bring together experienced and newbies Wikipedians. The event is important for the community because it help us plan a strategy for the outreach activities and development of the Wikipedia's of Nepal.

Survey analysis:

We did not conduct a survey. We discussed priorities in Village pump and discussion pages. We have started discussion regarding this event at our community Meetup. There are 12 people participated in the discussion so far at the different Wikipedia’s. The meta project endorsement section also support the event. Most of the people thinks that this is one of the most needed Wikicamp to boost the Wikimedia movement in Nepal.

1. What inspired your community to begin planning this event?
The target Wikipedias are lagging behind in terms of it's development and skilled editors. This inspire our community to step forward and begin planning of this event.
2. How does this event relate to other activities that your community is working on?
As we have organized various events for the development of Wikipedia and directly Wikimedia Foundation Projects. So, Absolutely we can say "Sustainable development" relates this event to other activities that our community is working on.
3. Please list the priorities identified in the report from the last conference organized by this community. What progress have you made in those areas?
This is the first event of it's type is going to be organize by this community. We are hopeful and make sure to organize such event at least per year or in a two year gap.
4. If your community has hosted a similar conference in the past, what key lessons were learned, and what would you like to improve on?
Never hosted.

Goals and outcomes[edit]

The goals of this Wikicamps are:

  • Increase the Wikimedia offline activities in Nepal.
  • Develop technical and leadership skill of the new Wikipedians
  • Build a positive communities by sharing session from established User Group representatives/executive members.
  • Bring together experienced and newbies Wikipedians.
  • Discussion on strategies for offline Wikimedia activities, mostly on Wikipedia Education Program.
  • Discussion on Development of new language projects (Incubator projects) of Nepal.

Measures of success[edit]

Please provide a list of both quantitative and qualitative criteria that will be used to determine how successful the project is. You are welcome to modify, delete or add to the metrics listed below so they reflect the goals of your event.

  • A total of 30 participants from diverse and under-represented Wikipedia communities of Nepal.
  • A total of at least 5 female participants.
  • One blog-post on WMF blog portal.
  • Feedback about conference experience (within 6 months after the event).
  • Discussion between Wikipedia Community and Wikimedia User Groups of Nepal.
  • New communication channels (Facebook, Telegram and Whatsapp) created to better coordinate work among participants.

Participants will travel to the event venue using Rental car, Auto or Public transport.
2. Is the event venue within walking distance from the hotel? If not, how will people travel between the two locations?
Hotel and event venue is same.
3. Is the event venue and hotel accessible for people with physical disabilities?
Yes.
4. Do you anticipate any challenges with using the space for the event you are planning?
No.

It is crucial that most participants have a minimum level of Wikimedia experience so that they can engage actively in workshops and discussions. Please answer all applicable questions below.

1. Please describe the target audience for this conference or event.
Wikipedians of Nepali, Maithili, Doteli, Newari, Bhojpuri, Sanskrit and Incubator (Awadhi and Marwari) Projects.
2. If your conference has an outreach component, how will you ensure engagement with these participants after the conference, and what impact do you see them having on the projects?
We will make a task force team during the events for outreach and Village Pump will be notified accordingly.
3. Are you thinking about inviting WMF staff to attend or participate in the event? If yes, please list individuals or teams who you may want to invite, or describe how you would like WMF staff to be involved in the event.
Hold- We are planning to have a organizer Meetup to discuss about this topic. We will decide it after the Meetup.

  • We have list of skilled volunteers for minimizing and overcome the risks. We have divided and formed various committee and team such as Logistics team, Program committee, Finance committee, Support and Safety Team etc. for the smooth workflow and handling the risks and problems occur during the event.
