Friendly space expectations: Guidelines and Templates

In order to help maintain a friendly space for participants in the Grants spaces, here a few guidelines and useful talk page templates designed to help manage disruptive comments on talk pages. All users are encouraged to use these tools, and to suggest improvements.

Scenarios[edit]

Comment type Example Recommended action
Harassment/trolling “YOU PEOPLE ARE PC MORONS” Revert comment, post {{Template:Friendly Space Expectations/Talkpage1}} Talk page template about the Friendly Spaces Expectations to the user’s talk page; report to Administrators if problem persists
Off-topic, but civil “The real elephant in the room here is the Xanadu chapter’s hostility to volunteers. Its management really needs to be completely overhauled. I’m sorry to be blunt, but it’s what I’ve experienced.” Point poster to more appropriate forum. For example, if a commenter is critical of a Chapter’s management or past practices, that should go to the Chapter discussion page or a wider forum. If they choose not to move their comment, use the {{Template:Friendly Space Expectations/Collapse}} “collapse” template to “hat” the comment.
Off-topic, with microaggressions “The Xanadu chapter should get zero dollars ever. There is so much ineptitude and arrogance in its governance, it’s nauseating. Get your heads out of the sand.” Revert comment, and post {{Template:Friendly Space Expectations/Talkpage2}} about FSE to user’s talk page. Suggest rephrasing comment to address topic and tone. Report to admins if reverted or if user continues.
On-topic, with microaggressions “This budget line exemplifies how Xanadu Chapter glosses over major problems by throwing cash around. 1200 dollars for volunteer travel bursaries? You’re just buying political support, as usual. Ridiculous, machiavellian and insulting.” Collapse comment, and post {{Template:Friendly Space Expectations/Talkpage3}} to user’s talk page. Suggest rephrasing comment for tone.
