Project idea[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?[edit]

I want to give users an easier way to use wikipedia using wearables devices, for example directly from their wrists.

What is your solution?[edit]

Working with the Android Wear SDK I can use vocal input to search for terms and get all the main data directly on my wrist (or somewhere else). I'd like also to add something like "Read it on your mobile device" so for example you can launch an intent to open the link on your browser or wikipedia app if installed.

Project goals[edit]

The main goal of the project is to allow users to use wikipedia wherever they want in an easier way than turn on the phone and use the app and/or browser search, getting main info on what they're looking for on a wearable device, like a watch.

Project plan[edit]

Scope[edit]

Activities[edit]

At the end of the project we will have a complete wearable app to use Wikipedia! We need guys working on UI, main application and Android Wear SDK discovering. I think to do all by myself, but as every open source project contributions will be accepted To test my project I'll try to test it on all conditions (out without connection, no connection with the phone and so on). Also I'll do basic testing on the app UI and functionalities.

Budget[edit]

Total amount requested[edit]

1500 USD

Budget breakdown[edit]

  • Buying wearables and phones for dev and tesing: 1500 USD

Intended impact[edit]

Target audience[edit]

Everyone who will buy a wearable device and like to know things!

Community engagement[edit]

My project will be open source on github, any contribution is welcome!

Fit with strategy[edit]

Increasing Reach is my main target, often you're out and like to have an easier way to access to Wikipedia. Wearables can accomplish this mission!

Sustainability[edit]

At the end of the project I will continue maintaining it and add features.. Also the core can be reusable for other wearables.

Measures of success[edit]

Need target-setting tips?

Participant(s)[edit]

I will start the project by myself, but it will be an open source project so anyone who wants to contribute is welcome! I worked as Android developer for SomaFM, Atooma, HFarm and now I'm helping The MagPi magazine.
