Grants for prolific backlog busters and Commons editors to upgrade Internet speed

Project idea[edit]

A really fast Internet connection makes quick work of Commons image categorization, uploading, and backlog busting projects. Modest grants to upgrade Internet connection speeds for our prolific editors working on specific projects could make for more productivity.

These grants could be run in conjunction with specific contests, such as:

  • Commons categorization contests
  • Assessment backlog contests
  • BLP review and assessment contest, etc.

Alternatively, we might consider ways to send editors to Kansas City or Austin, which have Google Fiber, and have editors work on their projects there. Or, we could identify organizations and educational institutions that already have super-fast Internet service, who would be willing to partner with us and bring in our editors to work at their site.

Project goals[edit]

Selecting a variety of editors for small grants to upgrade Internet connectivity, and comparing the results. This provides an opportunity to experiment and find out whether and how Internet connection speed impacts editor productivity.
