Grants:IdeaLab/Get Wikimedia projects in right places.

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Get Wikimedia's projects in right places.
Once Wikimedia project is a non-profit and non-governamental project, it would be good to get it inside the communities all around the world and assign them the responsability to be the connection between Wikimedia projects and several instituitions in their comunities, so that they create and improve articles on Wikimedia projects supported by Wikimedia, on regular basis, with researching campaigns and still being independent of availability of instituitions. Hence, more people could get envolved and more institutions would be reached. Dispite not all instituitions are governamental instituitions, it would be good to have wikipedians as connection between Wikimedia's projects and instituitions since would be regular people researching on that instituitions and not people inside instituitions.

Project idea[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?[edit]

Well, since ever, the institutions existed and problems related to education still existed, it because there's no much people outside of instituitions, qualified to do some works that could be done by them if they would get trained for that. So, creating opportunities for them to get more involved on Wikimedia projects and give them the responsability to be the connection between instituitions on their communities and Wikimedia projects, would be a good way to get more people involved on Wikimedia projects and get more people with knowlegdes about the subject being researched on instituitions and about Wikimedia projects.

What is your solution?[edit]

My suggestion is to have a regular campaign to have Wikipedians contacting instituitons to make researches about the theme for that campaign on instituitions, to improve articles on Wikimedia's projects, and get this instituitions represented on Wikimedia projects by regular Wikipedians, instead of instituitions by themselves, as consequences, getting knowledges "travelling" from instituitions through Wikimedians until it reach the Wikimedia's projects, so more Wikimedians would get involved and many more Wikimedians would get knowledges related to each theme being researched. There are communities with strong potential to dissiminate the Wikimedia's projects throughout the people around, since there the access to the Wikimedia's projects is more affordable than other communities and it could be leveraged to support other communities on projects that they are no able to accomplish.

Who will you be doing outreach with?[edit]

Primary schools , secundary schools, Wikimedians and interested people.

Goals[edit]

Get more people involved on Wikimedia's projects and having them as connection between Wikimedia and instituitions in their communit.

  • Very similar suggestion here: Grants:IdeaLab/Hour of Wikipedia. I added some input of mine there (including how this could be implemented). This suggestion seems to differ from the linked in that it would proactively contact institutions for gaining contributors within organizations. However I'm not sure how this could work out in practice. Fixuture (talk) 11:58, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
