To avoid matured articles turning deterioted over time, particular areas within each article can be marked as 'Refined Zones' with newly created 'zone-edit-protection' that can be edited only by certain users .

What is the problem you're trying to solve?

Deterioration of quality of a previously good, matured article over a time due to vandel / POV editors.

What is your solution?

At present, an article can be protected/semi-protected/Non-protect as a whole. Sometimes, matured and refined quality articles get corrupted by vandals or POV editors. The original editors may have overlooked such minor aberrations over time. While not giving up the freedom to further edit the article, portions of such articles can be kept edit-protected as special zones. The edit protection itself can be made into several user levels. These levels can be defined by the edit history or subject matter expertise or such parameters decided through community discussion.
