Grants:IdeaLab/Wikidiaries

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Wikidiaries
My idea is to create a new wikimedia platform that's focused on collecting and presenting diaries and journals from all historic eras (only those that are in the public domain of course). Every day would ideally contain accounts by several authors. It would be an encyclopedia of human experience.

Project idea[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?[edit]

The lack of an archive that let's us access the rich and complex history of mankind by presenting the voices of the people themselves.

What is your solution?[edit]

The project would resemble Wikisource: people would work collectively on digitalizing and presenting diaries that are in the public domain. The diary entries would be accessible by navigating a timeline or by putting in a specific date.

Endorsements[edit]

I really like this idea. It would be a great way to put existing material together in a way that really makes it more interesting and useful. Polymath49 (talk) 01:01, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

  • Diaries link forward and backward in a time line and also implicitly to one another for events at the same time. It will be good to have a wiki oriented in this way for historical sequences. It might include sequences of letters, too, those are sometimes important historical sources. Some of this might be done inside wikisource. econterms (talk) 19:16, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
