Project idea[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?[edit]

Most articles are created by men. This includes biographies about women. In addition, the majority of the content focuses on men.

Identify the systemic bias in women biographies written by men.

Although we want more women to contribute in the future, at this point we believe that it is crucial to evaluate the already existing material that refers to women in terms of objectivity.

There is research and the results show that many women don't edit Wikipedia.

What is your solution?[edit]

We would like to organize a series of workshops where we teach participants how to write articles about women because very often the language, terminology and the tone is biased.

Project goals[edit]

Improve existing content and create new content about women. Engage people in the Wikipedia movement and culture.

Teach the participants a new set of eyes and how to become actively involved in reducing the bias.

The participants will record each sentence or combination of words that are considered to be biased, and the suggested changes. This dataset will be included in the final report and will be valuable for other people interested in systemic bias. In the future this dataset could potentially be used to detect systemic bias in Women biographies automatically.
