Grants:PEG/WM ES/GLAM National Museum of Sculpture of Spain
Note: After a suggestion in the talk page by Ilario, we have changed the mentions to a “wikipedian in residence” of the original text open for discussion, to “project manager”, as the project involves tasks beyond the usual scope of the wikipedians in residence (apart from several tasks inside that scope). -jem- (talk) 17:53, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
Goal

Plan
| The National Sculpture Museum, managed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, is placed in the city of Valladolid, autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain, and former capital of the country. This site is the reference sculpture museum in Spain, hosting the most important collection of sculptures in the country and one of the most relevant in the world, regarding both, scope and subjects. |
| The collection is so extensive that initially we'll just focus in the works placed in its main building, the Colegio de San Gregorio, in order for the museum to check the benefits of collaborating with the Wikimedia projects and to evaluate beginning new phases or projects, possible with budget of the Spanish administration. |
| The initial duration of this project will be 4 months. | This project is directly related to GLAMing Madrid, presented by user Rodelar on behalf of Wikimedia Spain a few months ago and which is currently starting up, after its approval. Impact
[edit]Target readership
| The project will benefit Spanish Wikipedia principally, and also the sister projects Commons and Wikidata. We also hope that new editors will become enthusiastic about the Wikimedia projects and movement. |
Fit with strategy
[edit]What crucial thing will the project try to change or benefit in the Wikimedia movement? Please select the Wikimedia strategic priority(ies) that your project most directly aims to impact and explain how your project fits. Most projects fit all strategic priorities. However, we would like project managers to focus their efforts on impacting 1–2 strategic priorities. Examples of strategic priorities can be found here.
|
This project fits principally with increasing quality in the Wikimedia projects, but also with the increasing reach and increasing participation priorities. It's essential to motivate new contributors to "fall in love" with the movement, as well as the institutions, showing them the benefits of free-licensing their contents, the association of the name of their institution with the projects, and the fact that the material about their institution and their works is of the best possible quality thanks to their active participation.

Measures of success
[edit]Please provide a list of both quantitative and qualitative criteria that will be used to determine how successful the project is. You will need to report on the success of the project according to these measures after the project is completed. See the PEG program resources for suggested measures of success.

| Lack of a proper Internet connection in the museum for the daily work and the edit-a-thons; although a mobile WiFi connection is included in the budget, there may still be limitations because of the design of the building or the WiFi capabilities, so it could be necessary to find another venue for some of the edit-a-thons or to readjust the computer-aided on-site work in the museum. |
Budget
[edit]Please provide a detailed breakdown of project expenses according to the instructions here. See Budget Guidelines. Grantees are subject to line-item scrutiny of expenses. Changes to the approved budget beyond 10% in any category must be approved in advance.
- Project budget table
Expense | Per unit | Total | Notes |
Staff expenses (project manager, as freelancer, x4 months) | € 1,402.39 | € 5,609.56 | Base amount: € 1,159 plus value-added tax (21%) (€ 243.39), and minus personal income tax in Spain (9%) (€ 104.31) and 20% (€ 52.89) of the 2015 freelancer fee (minimum payment for social security) (€ 264.44). Total per month: 1,402.39-243.39-104.31-52.89 = € 1,001.80. The quota of the freelancer fee depends on the time someone has worked as freelancer: 20% for the six first months, 50 % for the next six months, 70 % for the next six months, and 100 % thereafter; the project manager hasn't worked as a freelancer before. The numbers have been chosen to obtain the same net quantity of GLAMing Madrid. |
Office supplies | € 700 | Includes: printing of informative leaflets about Wikimedia Spain and the Wikimedia projects, surveys, leaflet-guide about the Visual Editor, certificates of attendance to the edit-a-thons, QR codes, stickers...
Mobile WiFi (x12 months) | € 80 | € 960 | We include one year as it is the minimum period accepted by the ISP companies to give the routers for free; the expenses for just four months would be almost the same after including the routers, and by including one year, the connection could be re-used in other projects or events of Wikimedia Spain, like GLAMing Madrid. |
Edit-a-thons (x5) | € 175 | € 875 | Includes: snacks and drinks for the participants and helpers, and costs of transportation for the helpers (Wikimedia España members or expert wikipedians) |
Unexpected expenses | € 255,44
Total | € 8400 |

(Added on June 22th, 2015) (English)
- It's possible that the Museum helps us by providing the bibliography for the editathons, not just lending books, but also making photocopies; they also said that they could collaborate with some of the snacks (although they haven't specified).
- It could also happen that some (but not all) of the printings (leaflets, visual editor guide, Wikipedia introduction guide, etc.) could be done at the WM-ES headquarters, and so, funded by the Valladolid City Council, which owns the building.
- At the beginning of the preparation of the grant, some WM-ES members suggested me to search for some sponsorship for the wifi from the telephone companies. I've been trying, with no success for now; maybe I haven't knocked the right door.

Endorsements
[edit]Do you think this project should be selected for a Project and Event Grant? Please add your name and rationale for endorsing this project in the list below. Other feedback, questions or concerns from community members are also highly valued, but please post them on the talk page of this proposal.
- I wholeheartedly endorse this project. The proposed Wikipedian in residence (Laura) and the supporting resource (jem) are both experienced Wikipedia editors and have complementary skills: Laura has recently been involved in the organization of several edit-a-thons and has a background in art; jem is an expert IT admin. If anything, I'd suggest framing the project so that it can be extended beyond the proposed 4 months if results are satisfactory. --Hispalois (talk) 07:40, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
- Laura is totally prepared for this challenge with her long experience in Wikipedia and her very intensive experience in the last months in the organization and coordination within Wikimedia Spain of activities as those described in this submission. Therefore I have no doubt that this investment is worth it with an important impulse towards the targets of the movement in Spain. Poco a poco (talk) 18:05, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
- I endorse this project for several good reasons. The WiR, Laura Fiorucci has a long experience organizing edit-a-thons and other Wikimedia related events. Jem is a trustable IT expert who will be of great help. He's also very well versed in Valladolid related issues. The museum is a very important institution in the field of Spanish Sculpture, placed on a city with a big university and several other important cultural institutions, including -not a complete list- Science, Contemporary Art and East Asia Art museums. As Hispalois suggests, project expansion should be considered if results are satisfactory. B25es (talk) 18:08, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
- Support We really need this economical support for this project. Spanish public institutions have suffered heavy funding cuts in the last years and this kind of PEG is the perfect answer to place a full-time WiR at the museum. Congrats! Rastrojo (D•ES) 21:00, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
- I strongly support this grant proposal. For his experience in Wikipedia and events organization, I think that Laura is totally prepared for the task. This project is another important achievement as part of the collaboration of WMES with the Ministry of Culture and its network of museums. --Rodelar (talk) 15:22, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
- The current economical situation in the country does not allow museums rise their expenses and have a paid WiR (also seeing that it's not a big amount). But WM-movment can not lose this opportunity. --Millars (talk) 11:03, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
- I think that Laura is very well prepared and motivated to carry out this project. The museum is very well known and deserves attention. As it has been said, Public Cultural Institutions in Spain lack enough funds to pay this activities by themselves. But the stuff is there and it's so interesting. 19Tarrestnom65 (talk) 18:09, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
- Laura can do a great project, very important for the wikimedia movement in Spain--El Pantera (talk) 21:39, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
