Mozilla Philippines was not able to join any of the above events. Nevertheless, they were acknowledged and mentioned in the talks as the main proponent of the Open Web Day.

According to the filled out evaluation form from University of Nueva Caceres and Angeles University Foundation events:
  1. 82.4% said that their expectations for the whole event were completely met.
  2. 88.2% said that their expectations for the sessions were completely met.
  3. 94.1% said that the duration of the session was just right.
  4. 97.1% said that the duration of the lecture was just right.
  5. 88.2% said that the duration of the workshop was just right.
  6. 91.2% said that the duration of the discussion was just right.
  7. All were satisfied and very satisfied with the knowledge that they gained.
  8. All were satisfied and very satisfied with the skills that they acquired.

Goals and impact[edit]

Please describe how you achieved the goals outlined in your request for reallocation. Include your performance against any measures of success listed in your request for reallocation here.
The goals of this project are:
  1. to expand public awareness of Wikimedia projects;
  2. to encourage people to edit Wikimedia projects; and
  3. to improve the quality of the articles through an edit-a-thon.
We achieved all the goals as stated above because we were able to conduct campus tours and edit-a-thon that expanded the public awareness Wikimedia, encouraged people to participate Wikimedia projects and improved the quality of its contents. One proof of encouragement is the eagerness of jazz musician Johnny Alegre, WMPH member and participant at Open Web Day in AUF, to use photos in Wikimedia Commons for his next album. Public awareness of Wikimedia expanded to many people including WMPH members, students and professionals such as librarians and faculty members.
We also considered the Open Web Days made through the reallocation of the grant as a success because more than 20 participants attended all of these events. We were not able to conduct an edit-a-thon and workshop in an Internet café but instead, we used facilities of two universities for those workshops. Articles were improved because of these two workshops.
The edit-a-thon at the University of Nueva Caceres was the most successful Open Web Day event the WMPH ever had. First of all, this was a follow-up workshop for the Bikol Wikipedians. The workshop was conducted as an edit-a-thon with a twist because it became an on-the-spot editing contest. The technical hurdles that were encountered from previous events were solved. Since the Project Lead is a bureaucrat, there was no need to request for the lifting of the IP cap for creation of accounts. Instead, the Project Lead created accounts in behalf of the participants. The event was also fully sponsored by an anonymous donor and did not use any of the reallocation funds.
Briefly describe how your activities contributed to WMF's mission and strategic goals (stabilize infrastructure, increase participation, improve quality, increase reach, encourage innovation).
Stabilize infrastructure
Aside from technology investments and internal capacity to support the movement, this strategic goal also intends to expand public awareness and support for the Wikimedia movement. With more than 250 students and professionals who attended the campus tour and workshops, public awareness of the movement’s mission, vision, values and practices definitely increased. During the presentations, it was emphasized that Wikimedia is a non-profit organization that aims to distribute free knowledge to the world.
Increase participation
The two workshops, which proceeded from the reallocation of the grant, were participated in by the more than 50 attendees. The participants came from diverse underrepresented groups such as older age group, professionals (including librarians and a musician), and women.
Improve quality
The edit-a-thon portion of the workshops conducted in Angeles City and Naga City significantly improved the Kampapangan Wikipedia and Bikol Wikipedia, respectively. It was emphasized in the workshops that the participants should focus on specific topics that they are interested in.
Increase reach
The WMPH were able to reach out to the Kapampangan Wikipedia community for the first time. Aside from promoting the online version of Wikipedia, offline Wikipedia DVD was given to the community with the statement that the offline Wikipedia can be shared/recopied and distributed further. This helped increased reach to those who have no Internet access.
Encourage innovation
Initially, this project was partnered with Mozilla Philippines and eventually branched out to other like-minded organizations such as Computer Professionals’ Union and Creative Commons Philippines. These organizations foster innovation, open source, and free knowledge. There were exchanges of ideas between WMPH and these organizations that helped increase free access to information that drives Wikimedia projects.

Since the volunteers of AUF Open Web Day are all from Metro Manila, a personal vehicle was used to transport them from Manila to Angeles City. This expense includes fuel, parking and toll fees. Although, some of the toll fees and parking fees were paid by a volunteer as a donation.

In other the other events, meals of volunteers are either included in the meals for participants or provided by partners.

Ms. Josie Henson donated PHP 4,000 for the meals of AUF participants. During the AUF event, a volunteer paid for the toll fees going back from Manila and parking fee at AUF totaling to PHP 283.00. An anonymous person donated a total of PHP 8,640.00 for the UNC Open Web Day. The anonymous donation covers the cost for meals, accommodation and transportation of volunteers; promotional materials and meals of participants. WMPH did not spent anything for STI College - Novaliches campus tour and the UNC Open Web Day.
