6. Why do you believe your group is best positioned to drive this hub initiative? (required)

We believe we are  best positioned to drive this hub initiative , firstly from the experience we had in running together the movement strategy grant in 2021-2022 which was about the needs assessment of our communities in Burundi , DRC and Rwanda our communities are united with the common 3 languages of Swahili , French and English , then the second grant MSIG 2 conducted in 2024-2025 (where more than 500 people expressed interest in joining the movement and being trained ) was about the implementation of the leadership and skills development initiatives including the strategic plan we developed in close consultations with all communities and the common vision we share to base on our theory of change firm belief that we can be advocate of a literate citizens , initiate cultural exchange within the wikimedia movement , pioneer the technological evolution and bring the needed change in volunteer mindset using collaboratively the presented opportunities. MSIG 2 have made a significant contribution , statistics from the WMF dashboard  (174 editors , 6.17M article views and 6,275 commons uploads )

8. Describe the specific activities that will be carried out during this project. If your proposal is related to piloting a hub, describe the services you plan to offer and include how you are drawing on community consultation and needs assessments to define your activities. (required)

Based on the experience from the MSIG 1 and MSIG 2 grants , where we conducted needs assessment surveys and the results priorities the leadership and skills development , based on the conducted trainings in a decentralised mode  across the 3 communities in Burundi , DRC and Rwanda as well as collaborative platform app . We will strengthen these activities and specifically conduct the following activities : 

-On boarding new members , 500 people  who expressed interest,  and providing them the basic wiki growth training

- Leadership workshops with emphasis on innovation and  sustainability in our volunteers base especially the future audience contributing online as well as offline

- Monitoring and evaluation framework on the activities we conduct as a region , including the acquired skills and specific gaps where technically we will establish a continuous monitoring  dashboard dedicated to inform the decision making in our movement and how we align with the global movement.

-The developed Wiki'buntu app post development will be conducted with emphasis on the content development and user feedback to optimise the app to serve the purpose especially an interesting yet engaging content for future audiences.  

- The regional workshop on site to be organised  in one of our communities with objective to inspire the future audiences , to share the lessons learnt in implementation of the movement strategy plan and invite the wider community in our region to in central and East Africa to contribute on a strategic hub development 

- The legal registration process of the Africa great lakes hub with the modelling of  the governance and institutional structure frameworks in form of workshops and administrative support

We involved the communities of Burundi , DRC and Rwanda through a workshop which brought us together and the individual communities consultations , the conducted surveys and the consultation meeting with the regional leaders in Africa to align on priorities of the movement strategy implementation in Africa great lakes phase 3

On a regional perspective ,  We consulted the EARTH hub and we agreed that our initiatives will emphasize on leadership and skills development in Burundi , DRC and Rwanda .

Wikimedia user group Burundi , Wikimedia user group DRC , Wikimedia user group Rwanda as the main beneficiaries of the Africa great lakes hub in the skills and leadership development.

We are piloting  a hub in Africa great lakes  and part of the activities of this grant  will be the process for legal registration of this hub , we will develop the structures and make consultations with other stakeholders on the best approach to follow , we will also emphasize on the legal aspects of the hub we are initiating as  it will focus on leadership and skills development for our communities and be a presented to the rest of the world as a model for underrepresented communities working together towards a common goal. In mean time the governance of the project will follow the same concept of collaborative frameworks from the wikimediia communities of Burundi , DRC and Rwanda and the decentralisation principles on every and each community.

We will continue to use our official platforms from our individual communities , we have developed a shared platform including an app to make sure the communities are not only engaged but they are also informed on time and they participate in the planning process .
