Overview[edit]

What is the main objective of your proposal? Please state why you think partnering with Wikimedia Movement helps to achieve this objective?

In our two-year proposal, we would like to achieve the following objectives:

Create wikipedia articles for the main tea cultivars developed or discovered in Taiwan for tea production, the most important types of tea produced in Taiwan, including their manufacturing process and how to taste them, and the main tea producing regions, including the social-economic development of these regions.

We would also like to contribute to the wikiversity, wikispecies, and wikivoyage.

Describe your main strategies to achieve this objective?

To achieve the objectives mentioned above, we plan to directed out efforts into three broad components:
Capacity building

Throughout the project and especially during the first 6 months of it, capacity building would be the foundation for the project’s overall success. Writing and editing Wikipedia articles are skills which can be acquired only through sufficient training and practicing. Instructions from experienced Wikipedians would be extremely valuable. During the first 6 months, we expected to acquire the necessary skills to start writing and editing articles on our own, while talented members may continue to learn to be instructors.

Besides, acquiring knowledge of different aspects of tea would be helpful not only for our members to produce high quality articles, but also to incentivize our members to stay onboard. Therefore, training such as introductory tea tasting for staff and volunteers would be an important component in our project.

We especially welcome volunteers with special ethnic backgrounds to join us, as differences in diet habits can largely influence one’s perception of tea and are valuable for offering fresh perspectives to us.

Communication

We would implement two channels of communications throughout our project. First, as accessing literature for reference is expected to be challenging, we can benefit from keeping close contact with several key institutions in Taiwan, including Tea Research and Extension Station, Taiwan Tea Society, and National Taiwan University, where some of the rarest copies of books and journal articles can be found.

On the other hand, public visibility through press and social media can help us recruit more talents and deliver our content to the marginalized audience we strive to reach.

Impact evaluation

Measuring the impact of our work will be important for keeping us on track, helping us learning from our mistakes, and motivating us to continue contributing to what we can deliver the most impact to the Wikimedia movement and the society.

Where will this proposal be implemented?

Taiwan

Organization details[edit]

Organization name

Taiwanese Specialty Tea Society in Europe

What is your organization or group's mission and how does it align with the Wikimedia movement?

Taiwanese Specialty Tea Society in Europe aims at facilitating the development of an environment in which Taiwanese specialty tea culture can thrive in Europe through education, events, and collaborations with relevant stakeholders. However, unlike wine or coffee, information about tea is scant on the internet and even harder to access in the printed form, such as books and pamphlet. Such a lack of access, as we believe, has been a major obstacle we would have to address.

Please tell us how your organization is structured.

Taiwanese Specialty Tea Society in Europe consist of five core members: one president, Angie Chen, one vice president, Hsiao-Pu Chen, two directors Dr. Yu-Wen Hsieh and Wesley Charles Fu, and a supervisor Su Hui-Hsin. All of the core members will be involved in the work.

Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

Taiwan Tea Society and Tea Research and Extension Station will collaborately offer intensive introductory training program for our core members.

Please state if your organization or group has a Strategic Plan that can help us further understand your proposal. You can also upload it here.
