Part 1: Understanding your work
[edit]Per the recent update on the Wikimedia Foundation Affiliates Strategy process, Wikimedia Affiliates that are General Support Fund grantees will fulfill their affiliate reporting requirements through their final or yearly grantee report.
If you are a Wikimedia Affiliate, you will use this form for your affiliate reporting and to address the affiliate health criteria. You do not need to submit a separate report to AffCom. Follow the guidance in the green boxes to report on how you met the corresponding affiliate health criteria.
If you are not a Wikimedia Affiliate, aligning your responses with the affiliate criteria is optional and not required.
1. Please share to what extent your programs, approaches, and strategies contributed to addressing the challenges you shared in your proposal. If they did not contribute as you believed they would, please share what obstacles you faced and what, if anything, you learned from them? (required)
For affiliates, use this space (Question 1.) to address Affiliate Health Criterion 1.1 (Goal delivery). Describe how you actively delivered on mission goals, e.g. content creation.
The approaches, strategies we identified are listed below:
- One of our most important strategies was to strengthen the digital presence and representation of African languages, cultures, and cuisines, focusing specifically on the preservation and documentation of Africa's rich and diverse heritage.
We achieved this by the inclusion of our Culture Connect Africa Project, Culture Connect Africa featured a host of African languages and participants including Ghana, Swahili, Kenya, DRC and a host of others, we came together to build a campaign called Culture Connect Africa, this campaign started off with African Film and Cinema - [1] .
This saw participants creating and building contents around African film and cinema across various african language Wikipedia, see dashboard below: [2]
We also continued with the AfroFestival and Afrocuisine in the second half of the year, this projects helped to strengthen the digital presence and representation of African culture, cuisines with the aim to document Africa’s culture and heritage.
See dashboards below for each language and projects:
- Another strategy was to establish a sustainable cycle of mentorship within the Afroyanga Bootcamp program called the Afroyanga Delegates, we achieved this by converting previous mentees (who have since grown significantly) into mentors for new participants, thus fostering leadership and continuity within the community.
The Afroyanga Bootcamp 2.0 experienced a huge increment as we hosted 40 delegates comprising of about 15 delegates from the first version and 25 entirely new delegates, the 15 delegates from the first version all acted in mentorship capacity to the entirely new delegates, with the Afroyanga bootcamp program, we have maintained a cycle of mentorship as our delegates have assumed leadership position, leading training sessions, organising local campaigns in their local community amongst others.
See testimonials and other information below:
- We also planned to leverage the success of Afrocuisine to create a comprehensive and structured database of African foods on Wikidata.
This was achieved by focusing our Afrocuisine contest / program on Wikidata and Wikibooks, on Wikidata, we focused on creating a structured database for African foods on Wikidata. See link to outreach dashboard below:
- We also planned to Involve volunteers in the planning, execution, and leadership of our projects, giving them the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and contribute meaningfully to the initiatives they are passionate about.
Our Afroyanga delegates from 1.0 were mostly involved in the planning and execution of the Afroyanga Bootcamp 2.0 - their involvement gave some of them the leadership ability as they took on leadership task, engaged their community and devised carefully the curriculum used for the bootcamp, this brought about synergy from various community members (Igala, Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa) planning on how to bring everyone together.
2. Is there a plan to build on the key successes you had? If yes, please describe the plan and if no, please share the limitations to do so. For instance, did the activities lead to any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future? (required)
The success recorded from initiatives like Culture Connect Africa and the valuable lessons drawn from similar programs in other African countries have indeed created an opportunity to build on these achievements. A notable example is the strategic partnership established with the Dagbani User Group in Ghana for FY-2025. This collaboration was born out of the key successes and learnings from the Culture Connect Africa pilot program and the need to have a training hub in Ghana.
Moving forward, the plan includes leveraging this partnership to enhance cross-regional collaboration, share best practices, and expand the reach of programs focused on celebrating and documenting African heritage. Additionally, the activities have inspired new priorities such as fostering community-driven content creation and hosting more targeted training sessions to equip contributors with the skills needed to promote African cultures effectively. The goal is to use these efforts to ensure a sustainable impact and broaden the representation of African voices in global knowledge platforms.
3. Please provide a link to reports that detail the activities that took place in the last year. This can include an annual report, Meta pages, and websites. If there are no links available, briefly describe the implemented activities and programs below or upload any files. (required)
For affiliates, use this space (Question 3.) to address Affiliate Health Criteria 2.1 (Affiliate health & resilience), 4.1 (Internal engagement), 4.2 (Community connection), and 4.3 (Partnerships and collaboration):

Part 3: Skill Development / Capacity Building
[edit]12. Reflecting on your programmatic (external) and organizational (internal) work, did your grant support you to undergo any skill development that made a difference to your success? If yes, what skill was developed, and how did it lead to success? (e.g. received coaching on public speaking, attended training on nonviolent communication, hosted professional development conversations on leadership, learned and used a new tool for project management, etc.)? Can you share any materials? (required)
For affiliates, use this space (Question 12.) to address Affiliate Health Criteria 2.2 (Diversity balance) and 3.1 (Diverse, Skilled, and Accountable Leadership):
- Describe actions taken to prioritize gender balance in affiliate leadership, as well as any areas of diversity relevant to your affiliate's context (2.2).
- Describe the management, financial, or other leadership skills of your affiliate leaders. If you have a succession plan, please include it here (3.1).
- Describe any training or skill development (as outlined in the question above) (3.1).
- Incorporate into the annual report a disclosure of conflict of interests (if any) from the leadership (3.1).
Yes, the grant significantly supported skill development that contributed to the success of our programs, including Afroyanga Bootcamp, Culture Connect Africa, and other mentorship initiatives.
One key area of growth was leadership and facilitation skills, developed through hosting professional development conversations and coordinating collaborative sessions across these programs. These skills enhanced our ability to plan, execute, and deliver impactful training sessions, edit-a-thons, and mentorship activities that celebrated and promoted African heritage.
We also advanced in project management by learning and using tools that streamlined the planning and execution of activities, allowing us to efficiently manage resources and ensure seamless delivery of programs like Culture Connect Africa and the Afroyanga Bootcamp. This led to well-structured training, peer-to-peer learning, and impactful panel discussions that enriched participants' experiences.
Additionally, coaching on public speaking and nonviolent communication was instrumental in creating inclusive and engaging environments. These skills helped us moderate sessions effectively, inspire participants, and foster collaboration during the programs.
Resources such as project management templates, structured training materials, and communication frameworks were created and shared across the team to ensure sustainability and scalability. The combined lessons from these programs have informed new priorities and strategies, laying the foundation for even greater impact in future initiatives.
13. What is one capacity/skill area that you would like to focus on for the next year? And how do you plan to achieve this capacity? (required)
One capacity area we would like to focus on for the next year is community engagement and retention. While we have successfully engaged participants during programs like Afroyanga Bootcamp and Culture Connect Africa, we aim to build a more robust structure for sustained participant involvement and active contribution beyond the program duration.
To achieve this, we plan to:
- Develop mentorship frameworks: Pair program alumni with experienced mentors to guide their continued growth and contributions to Wikimedia and other knowledge-sharing platforms.
- Host follow-up activities: Organize periodic webinars, edit-a-thons, and peer-to-peer learning sessions to keep participants connected and active within the community.
- Build a digital community platform: Create an online space where participants can share their progress, collaborate on projects, and access resources for skill development.
- Provide incentives and recognition: Offer awards, certificates, and public acknowledgment to participants making significant contributions, encouraging sustained involvement.
These strategies will ensure we maintain momentum, foster deeper connections among participants, and amplify the impact of our programs over time
