- 8. What are your programs, approaches, and strategies? What are the challenges that you are trying to address and how will your strategies support you in addressing these challenges? (required)
Our programs focus on five main areas: strengthening organizational resilience, engaging and improving the capacities of the community, improving the experience of Basque readers, innovating in free knowledge, and identifying topics for impact. We combine classical Wikimedia projects, such as workshops with universities and museums, with more innovative approaches, as multimedia initiatives like Ikusgela, or cultural heritage work like "History of the Basque Country in 100 Objects", and we add international collaborations, both online and onsite.
Our approach is based on partnerships, capacity-building, and innovation. By working with schools, museums, the University of the Basque Country, the Basque Government, and international Wikimedia communities, we are able to identify knowledge gaps, create high-quality resources, and ensure that free knowledge reaches diverse audiences. The addition of a Communications Officer to our team allows us to systematize documentation and expand outreach, making our work more visible and sustainable.
We will address several challenges during the next year, as improving the knowledge of our projects in the education context, and trying to build a new ecosystem with University and GLAM partners so we can pitch innovative ways of collaborating with them. Our strategies (developing multimedia content, connecting with institutions, searching for external funding, and exploring new tools) directly respond to these challenges. Together, they help us make knowledge more accurate, engaging, and accessible while building a resilient organization capable of sustaining this impact.

There are currently five full-time salaried employees working at the association. In September 2025, we made an adjustment to our staff due to a vacancy that we have just filled. Currently, these are the salaried employees:
- Galder Gonzalez (Theklan) is the Executive Director and is responsible for managing and coordinating all the projects we are working on, carrying out design and supervision tasks, along with many other tasks. He is also responsible for seeking out and developing new fundraising opportunities.
- Aiora Mujika (Aioramu) is responsible for the Ikusgela project, the multimedia educational project we have been developing since 2022. She is in charge of coordinating all content, scripts, video recordings, supplier coordination, editing, and monitoring publications.
- Edurne Agirre (Edagit) handles all tasks related to the association's accounting, administrative work, and reporting. Her main tasks are based on managing the various grants received by the association and seeking out new opportunities.
- Anabel Arraiza (Anarrarti) is responsible for our projects in Navarra. She designs and develops multiple cultural projects in the area and, thanks to the help of WMF, she is also in charge of developing the educational project throughout the territory.
- We also have a new Communication Officer, whose tasks are based on the proper communication of the projects we develop, campaign design, communication with the press, etc. In addition to providing support for the projects we have in different areas.
- 12. Will you be working with any internal (Wikimedia) or external partners? Describe the characteristics of these partnerships and bring a few examples of the most significant partnerships. (required)
Every year we try to collaborate with other associations in the movement. In addition, we collaborate with Wikimedia Europe to seek new opportunities and projects together with other partners.

Additional information
[edit]- 22. In this optional space you can add any other additional information about your proposal or organization that you think can help us when reviewing your proposal. (optional)
With this grant, our goal is to be able to carry out our annual plan in its entirety, as it is impossible to cover everything with the external funding we receive.
We have had external support since 2017, which is mainly directed towards the educational project and Ikusgela. This support has remained virtually unchanged since that year, which means that our capacity to develop new projects is reduced every year. In addition, the Basque Government and the Government of Navarra have serious limitations on covering expenses related to projects other than those they finance, as well as travel and organizational expenses, the Annual General Meeting expenses, etc. This means that we have limitations not only in terms of spending, but also in terms of the projects we can develop.
With the help of WMF, we aim to cover part of our staff's dedication, so that we can increase our operational capacity and also work on all the projects we are developing, without the limitations imposed in the other fundings sources. By expanding our sources, we can justify the time we devote to both educational and cultural project. For example, the project "History of the Basque Country in 100 Objects" is fully funded by this grant, both in terms of the time dedicated by employees and all the needed collaboration with external partners.
However, all other projects, such as the educational project and Ikusgela, are also made possible thanks to this WMF grant, which covers part of the personnel costs that make them possible. Without this contribution, it would be completely impossible for these projects to be carried out, so even though it does not explicitly cover them, the distribution of expenditure that it provides is what makes them possible.
By submitting your proposal/funding request you agree that you are in agreement with the Application Privacy Statement, WMF Friendly Space Policy and the Universal Code of Conduct.
We/I have read the Application Privacy Statement, WMF Friendly Space Policy and Universal Code of Conduct.
