- 8. What are your programs, approaches, and strategies? What are the challenges that you are trying to address and how will your strategies support you in addressing these challenges? (required)
Background In 2025, Wikipedia Asian Month User Group successfully re-engaged over 60 communities, with 15 in-person events organized, significantly exceeding participation levels from the past four years. This renewed momentum demonstrates strong community interest. The strategic focus for 2026 is to transform this short-term enthusiasm into sustained organizational capacity and long-term engagement. Building on the framework established in 2025, we will further strengthen the operations of the International Steering Committee (StC) and improve the user experience of the campaign tools to support stable cross-wiki collaboration.
Three Annual Strategic Objectives Strategy 1. Institutionalizing International Governance We aim to shift from ad hoc administrative coordination toward sustainable operations by establishing standardized and replicable models for international collaboration. This includes formalizing governance structures, developing mentor succession and knowledge transfer systems, and supporting the long-term growth of local communities.
Strategy 2. Tech-Driven - Fountain Tool Enhancement In 2025, we identified key interface and functionality pain points within the Fountain Tool. In 2026, we will adopt a dual-track, user-centered approach to remove technical barriers, significantly improve overall participation and user experience.
Strategy 3. Expanding Media Frontiers We seek to move beyond a text-centric editing model by connecting multiple Wikimedia projects and building a comprehensive archive of Asian culture across diverse media formats. Several pilot initiatives in 2025 received strong community response. In 2026, we aim to further stabilize and scale these efforts, including the WAM Postcard Design Contest, the Wikivoyage Special Edition, and the WMA Improve Program. By linking Wikimedia Commons with Wikivoyage, these initiatives foster a sense of ownership among Asian communities and advance the documentation and representation of Asian cultures.
