Part 1: Understanding your work
[edit]Per the recent update on the Wikimedia Foundation Affiliates Strategy process, Wikimedia Affiliates that are General Support Fund grantees will fulfill their affiliate reporting requirements through their final or yearly grantee report.
If you are a Wikimedia Affiliate, you will use this form for your affiliate reporting and to address the affiliate health criteria. You do not need to submit a separate report to AffCom. Follow the guidance in the green boxes to report on how you met the corresponding affiliate health criteria.

1. Please share to what extent your programs, approaches, and strategies contributed to addressing the challenges you shared in your proposal. If they did not contribute as you believed they would, please share what obstacles you faced and what, if anything, you learned from them? (required)
For affiliates, use this space (Question 1.) to address Affiliate Health Criterion 1.1 (Goal delivery). Describe how you actively delivered on mission goals, e.g. content creation.
This project contributed significantly to addressing the challenges identified in the proposal, particularly the the limited visibility and accessibility of Balinese lontar manuscript within Wikimedia platforms. We adding manuscripts collection of British Library and Leiden University Library, the project improved the representation of Balinese lontar Manuscripts on wikidata.
The achievement are 154 datas of British library and 200 datas of Leiden University Library in Wikidata and Wikipedia article about Leiden colletions. This work demonstrated that Wikipedia platforms can play important role in connecting manuscripts collection kept in international institution with communities in Bali.
The project also sought to address the limited engagement of students and local communities with manuscript heritage. We organized a workshop at Udayana University, Universitas Hindu Indonesia, STKIP Amlapura and Penyuluh Bahasa Bali collaborated with members of the Wikimedia Denpasar community, introduced the Wikimedia platform, and encouraged them to contribute to Wikimedia platforms.
However, the project also faced several challenges. One of the main challenges encountered during the project was expanding participation beyond a small group of contributors. While there was strong interest in the workshop, building a larger and more sustainable contributor community requires long-term engagement and continued mentoring. Another challenge was establishing collaboration with institutions outside Indonesia. We faced these problems in the first stage of this project. Building relationships with libraries and manuscript-holding institutions often requires considerable time, communication, and coordination before meaningful collaboration can take place.
Through these experiences, we learned the successfull manuscript related wikimedia projects depend not only on working in wikimedia platform, but also on relationship-building. Patnerships with institutions and sustained engagement with student and contributor are essential for ensuring long term impact.
2. Is there a plan to build on the key successes you had? If yes, please describe the plan and if no, please share the limitations to do so. For instance, did the activities lead to any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future? (required)
Yes, the outcomes of Wikisami have directly informed the development of Wikisami 2 and several new priorities for future activities. One of the most important achievements of the project was demonstrating that the Wikimedia platform can be used to document and connect the Balinese lontar manuscript collection held by international institutions. Building on this success, future activities will continue metadata enrichment and expand the work to additional collections while improving the quality and completeness of existing records.
The workshop conducted during the project revealed strong interest among students in contributing to Wikimedia platforms. As a result, community engagement and education have become a greater priority in the next phase of the project. Future activities will expand outreach efforts to both university and school students.
The project also highlighted the importance of institutional partnerships. Experiences gained through collaboration with Leiden University Library have inspired new collaborations with local institutions such as Universitas Hindu Indonesia STKIP Amlapura, Udayana University and Penyuluh Bahasa Bali, particularly in the areas of manuscript cataloging and digitization. The project also plans to continue exploring partnerships with other manuscript-holding institutions to improve access to Balinese manuscript collections.
Another important lesson was that participation in Wikimedia projects should not be limited to writing articles. While some contributors are interested in editing Wikimedia projects, others are more comfortable contributing through oral and language-based activities. This led to the inclusion of Lingua Libre in the next phase of the project, providing an alternative pathway for participation through audio recordings

Yes, Feedback was collected from workshop participants through discussions, informal conversations. Participants generally expressed enthusiasm about learning new skills related to Wikimedia platforms and manuscript heritage. Many participants indicated that this was their first experience contributing to Wikimedia projects and that the workshops provided new perspectives on how Balinese manuscript traditions can be documented and shared through open knowledge platforms. 7. What, if any, effective tactics or approaches can you share that worked well when dealing with the programs under points 6.1-6.3 that you selected? (optional)
One of the most effective approaches was working through existing educational and cultural institutions that already have a strong connection to Balinese language and manuscript traditions. Collaborating with universities such as Udayana University, Universitas Hindu Indonesia (UNHI) , STKIP Amlapura and Penyuluh Bahasa Bali made it easier to engage participants who already had an interest in Balinese literature and cultural heritage. Another effective strategy was connecting Wikimedia activities with knowledge that participants were already familiar with. Rather than introducing Wikimedia platforms as standalone technical tools, the project used Balinese manuscripts, literary traditions, and local cultural heritage as entry points for participation. This helped participants see Wikimedia platforms as a way to document, share, and preserve knowledge that was meaningful to their own communities.

Yes. The grant supported the development of several important skills that contributed directly to the success of the project. One of the most important areas of development was inputing metadata in Wikidata. Through the project, we gained practical experience in transforming manuscript catalogue information into structured data that could be integrated into Wikimedia platforms. This skill was essential for documenting and enriching records related to Balinese manuscripts and improving their visibility online. The project also strengthened our skills in partnership building and institutional collaboration. Working with institutions such as Leiden University Library, the British Library, and local partners in Bali.

One capacity area I would like to focus on in the coming year is community building and contributor retention. Through WikiSami, I learned that creating content and organizing workshops are only the first steps. A greater challenge is supporting participants beyond a single activity and helping them become long-term contributors to Wikimedia projects. This is particularly important for projects related to manuscript heritage, where sustained engagement is needed to build both subject expertise and Wikimedia skills.
