In 2027, Wikimedia Indonesia will pursue three interconnected priorities: (1) Strengthening community development by expanding from 26 to 30 active communities, (2) Increasing the quantity and quality of articles particularly on the Indonesian Wikipedia and regional language projects, with a milestone of reaching one million articles on Wikipedia bahasa Indonesia in its 25th anniversary, (3) and Ensuring organizational stability.
To achieve these goals, we will implement capacity-building initiatives such as online WikiLatih (WikiTraining) workshops, prioritized over in-person sessions for their ability to reach contributors anytime and anywhere. These will be complemented by mentorship programs that nurture new contributors and empower volunteers to take on leadership roles. We will also deepen partnerships with schools, universities, libraries, research institutions, and cultural organizations to enrich content and broaden public engagement. At the organizational level, we will continue to professionalize our financial, administrative, and governance systems to ensure transparency, accountability, and resilience.
The challenges we aim to address include sustaining and expanding volunteer engagement across diverse regions, improving the quality and scope of articles in both Indonesian and regional languages, and securing long-term organizational sustainability. We also recognize external risks such as internet censorship, misinformation, the rise of AI-generated content, and limited public awareness of open knowledge. Our strategies are designed to respond directly to these challenges: capacity-building fosters community renewal, partnerships expand the availability of reliable content, advocacy campaigns strengthen resilience against external pressures, and improved governance safeguards organizational stability. Together, these approaches will enable Wikimedia Indonesia to thrive as a dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable movement for free knowledge.

Yes, Wikimedia Indonesia collaborates closely with both internal Wikimedia affiliates and external partners through advocacy, programmatic activities, and strategic partnerships. Within the Wikimedia movement, we engage with regional affiliates in the ESEAP (East, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific) community to strengthen collaboration, share resources, and coordinate advocacy efforts. These partnerships ensure alignment with global Wikimedia priorities while addressing local needs in Indonesia.
Externally, we typically partner with organizations that share our vision for open knowledge and cultural preservation. Significant examples include:
- Educational and knowledge institutions such as schools, universities, libraries, and research organizations, where we co-develop training programs, digitization projects, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Government bodies and embassies, particularly in areas of information access, knowledge exchange, and policy advocacy, supporting a more enabling environment for open knowledge.
- NGOs and businesses, through collaborations that leverage knowledge resources, joint campaigns, and community engagement activities.
These partnerships are characterized by inclusivity, shared goals, and mutual capacity building. They expand the reach of Wikimedia Indonesia’s programs, enrich the content available on Wikimedia projects, and strengthen advocacy for digital rights and open knowledge.
