8. What are your programs, approaches, and strategies? What are the challenges that you are trying to address and how will your strategies support you in addressing these challenges? (required)

Our strategic framework is built around three core pillars: Learn, Implement, and Celebrate. This strategy concentrates to tackle multiple challenges within the Wikimedia Libya Community, from skill-building to maintaining engagement and promoting diversity.

Our holistic approach will be as following:

Learn We aim to enhance the community's knowledge and skill set through a series of training programs that tackle the following challenges: Capacity building: Upscaling the editing skills of our community members. Newcomer recruitment and retention: Attracting new editors and supporting their sustained participation. Sustainability of learned skills: Ensuring long-term contributions by providing continuous learning opportunities.

These challenges will be addressed through the following key activities: Wikipedia Editing Trainings: A series of trainings across four locations ( 4 clubs), supported by the Training of Trainers (2024 ToT) graduates, will ensure knowledge is passed on. Creating editing clubs will help with continuous learning and local engagement . Sector-Specific Training: A special training session for ecology and environmental sciences students will be held, enabling them to contribute to campaigns such as WikiForHumanRights. Little Women Editing (Second Edition): Building on last year’s success, we will teach high school girls to edit Wikipedia in celebration of Arabic Wikipedia Day, further promoting youth engagement. Wikidata Training: We will offer both beginner and advanced Wikidata training. Our community will celebrate Wikidata Birthday in October with a special beginner session, followed by advanced training later in the year. Wikisource and Wiktionary Training: The Wiktionary training will focus on Arabic literature and education, specifically targeting those who have expertise in the Arabic language. This initiative aims to revive the dormant Arabic Wiktionary project by engaging participants who are passionate about language and literature, ensuring that Arabic speakers take the lead in expanding this vital resource.

2. Implement The second pillar of our strategy involves the practical application of skills gained in the learning phase. These activities address challenges in maintaining community engagement, expanding contributions, and enhancing Libyan content on Wikimedia platforms.

Implementation initiatives include: WikiWomen Campaign: Partnering with feminist organizations, we will host Wikipedia and Wikiquote editing sessions that promote gender diversity in both content and contributors. This campaign will be a platform for our volunteers to leverage their editing skills. Wiki Climate Change Campaign: Our community launched its first activity with this campaign and we want to preserve our involvement. We will build on past successes by hosting a climate change seminar and competition with a focus on the Maghreb region. This year, we’ll broaden the scope to include topics relevant to Libya, such as biodiversity and climate knowledge accessibility. Competitions: We will host Libyan Food Photography contest, Wiki Loves Monuments contest, and Wikipedia pages want photos contest. A food photography competition during Ramadan will encourage the community to document cultural traditions, while Wiki Loves Monuments will increase visual content on Libya’s heritage sites. These will also expand Wikimedia’s visual content, ensuring continued enthusiasm and contribution to both global and local campaigns. GLAM Initiative: By collaborating with Mohamad Sasi library, we will document hundreds of books on Wikidata, enhancing both local engagement and global access.

3. Celebrate We’ll celebrate milestones and achievements with interactive events designed to keep the community connected: Wikipedia Day Celebration: Recognizing the growth and accomplishments of our community on this key day. Wikidata Celebration: Hosting events around Wikidata Birthday to acknowledge contributors and keep engagement high. Arabic Wikipedia Day: Paired with the Little Women Editing event, we’ll celebrate efforts to improve Arabic content on Wikipedia. Arabic Language Day: Highlighting contributions to the Arabic-speaking world, with a focus on language and cultural preservation through platforms like Wiktionary and Wikipedia.

Challenges addressed after Learning, Implementing, and Celebrating:

The Wiktionary training for Arabic literature and education will revitalize the dormant Arabic Wiktionary project by engaging experts in the language, ensuring meaningful contributions. Our diverse activities prevent burnout by offering varied ways to stay involved, from editing to photography. Language barriers are tackled through targeted initiatives like Wiktionary and Arabic Language Day, increasing Arabic content. By involving niche contributors, such as ecology students and language experts, we broaden our community’s expertise. Additionally, outreach programs like Wikipedia Editing Clubs help expand our geographic reach, engaging participants from remote areas.
