- 11. Describe your team. (required)
Our affiliate is currently 100% volunteer-run and it has 7 members. The formal set up of our affiliate is a bit different than what is usual in the movement. The Board is an executive board: the chairperson and the two vice-chairs have unique responsibilities: full access to the bank accounts, signing legal documents on behalf of the organization and being representatives to government offices. The Audit Committee has a supervisory role. This is similar to the German style of a two-tier board with the Vorstand (Q897395) and Aufsichtsrat (Q759969). The final instance is the membership that usually meets at an Annual General Meeting. In practice, aside from the unique responsibilities mentioned above, the Board does not have a special role in the day-to-day running of the organization: our bi-weekly (and sometimes weekly) meetings are attended by Board members, Audit Committee members, regular members and non-members but active volunteers. The situation would change only slightly after the grant is approved: two new paid positions would be created, an administrative and a marketing position. Neither position currently has a specific person in mind, but these would highly likely be people who are already part of the user group and thus understand how it works and what it requires to run. They might have a position already or they might not. We are open to changing the structure to create a more formal and top-down approach to management but would like to do that only when it becomes necessary and we know that the staff is here to stay and/or might have to be recruited from outside of our current membership.
User group administrator Name: TBA Paid: Contractor Role: Administrative work for the internal working of the user group, including accounting, communication with other affiliates and local organizations, preparation for internal meetings, reporting, budgeting, calling meetings and preparing their agendas, representing the organization.
Marketing director
Name: TBA
Paid: contractor
Role: Advertising position including PR, social media management, creating and managing web content including videos.
These two positions would be about 0.4 FTEs in total.
- 12. Will you be working with any internal (Wikimedia) or external partners? Describe the characteristics of these partnerships and bring a few examples of the most significant partnerships. (required)
Our biggest partner at the moment is the City Library in Bratislava (Q101421270). We envision that our cooperation would grow. So far, we have hosted our seniors project (Seniors Writing Wikipedia: (Q137300765) last year there. We are also planning to host the 25th anniversary of Wikipedia event there.
- 13. In what ways do you think your proposal most contributes to the Movement Strategy 2030 recommendations. Select all that apply. (required)
- Increase the Sustainability of Our Movement, Provide for Safety and Inclusion, Invest in Skills and Leadership Development, Manage Internal Knowledge
Metrics
[edit]Wikimedia Metrics
[edit]- 14. Please select and fill out Wikimedia Metrics for your proposal. (recommended)
- 14.1. Number of participants, editors, and organizers.
All metrics provided are optional, please fill them out if they are aligned with your programs and activities.
| Metrics name | Target | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Number of all participants | 5 | EDUCATION, COMMUNITY: For each workshop, we assume 10-15 active participants per workshop. For competitions, we also assume 10-15 participants per competition, with up to 20 for Wiki Loves Earth. We thus assume the participation of ~80-100 people total for the planned activities. These numbers are based upon our previous estimates of participants, where for online competitions, we generally have around 10 participants per activity, which is a good result considering the size of the project. Similarly for in-person workshops, the number of people that can attend is partially limited by the number of WMSK organizers, who can reliably and properly conduct the workshop. However, with younger participants, such as students, the number of participants could likely be higher despite a lower number of organizers, as they are more likely to work independently.
INITIATIVES: It is hard to estimate the number of participants in the initiatives, as these are entirely new projects for us. During the photo exhibitions, we would like to reach at least 50-100 outside people who might be interested to learn more about the presented images. As for the WikiGap editathon, we also assume around 10 people who would participate. This would put this section at 60-110 participants. |
| Number of all editors | N/A | EDUCATION, COMMUNITY: Most of our programs are aimed at editors, hence most participants would be editors. This puts the estimate at ~80-100 people.
Workshops are intended to bring in entirely new editors to learn how to contribute to the projects. In this, we assume all participants of these workshops would be new users, totalling about 30 people. Retention is unfortunately one of the challenges that we are facing with our programs. However, with a dedicated employee of WMSK, we think reaching out and checking in with new editors would be much easier, thus potentially raising editor retention. We would like to retain at least 50% of the new editors, although this number is hard to estimate. From our previous workshops, our retention rate was about 10%. |
| Number of new editors | N/A | |
| Number of retained editors | N/A | |
| Number of all organizers | N/A | The whole WMSK User Group would help organize most activities, either more actively or by bouncing ideas and providing support. On top of the User Group, we have several community members who help judge articles in some of the programs for the community. In this sense, 10-12 organizers total would be involved in our activities.
We would like to on-board 1-2 new people from the community who could help us organize new events for the community. In the past, community members have been involved in judging the articles or images uploaded to Commons. We’d thus like to keep bringing members of the community who know the projects to take part in these activities further. |
| Number of new organizers | N/A |

- Description for Wikimedia projects contributions metrics. (optional)
Created: 150-170 1 per person per workshop = 1x10x2 = 20 Estimates: Wikipedia Asian Month 60, Wiki loves film 33, CEE Spring 60 Edited or improved: 100 We do not track edits or improvements during our contests as prizes are usually given for new articles, so this number is hard to estimate. However, during workshops, each user should edit at least 5 articles before trying to make their own article. In the estimate, we assume different articles, not how many edits were done to each article, as that is difficult to estimate. 5 per person per workshop = 5x10x2 = 100 Commons: Created: 500 We assume about 450 images uploaded during Wiki Loves Earth, estimated by the last several years. We also assume some new images might be uploaded during Wiki Loves Film, as there will be movie festivals happening around that time.

Additional information
[edit]- 22. In this optional space you can add any other additional information about your proposal or organization that you think can help us when reviewing your proposal. (optional)
Wikimedians of Slovakia User Group are a long-standing affiliate within the Wikimedia world. We are a stable albeit smaller group, we participate in international events and are a part of both the CEE Hub and Wikimedia Europe. We are known by the groups in our regions and try to participate in multinational contests, such as Wiki Loves Earth, when possible. Although we have received Rapid Grants from Wikimedia Foundation previously, as new applicants, we might need a bit of help, but we are very open to feedback and collaboration.
Thank you for consideration!
By submitting your proposal/funding request you confirm that you have read and agree to the Application Privacy Statement, WMF Friendly Space Policy, and the Universal Code of Conduct.
