Based on our strategic plan for 2026-2028 and the mission of our User Group, our work is centered on 3 core pillars: Education GLAM Outreach

Education: Implementing Educational Wikimedia projects into schools and universities through WikiClubs, editathons, WikiCamps, workshops with teachers, students, educational organizations, youth centers etc.

GLAM: Partnering with cultural institutions such as libraries, archives, and museums to document and share cultural heritage on Wikimedia platforms.

Outreach: International and local campaigns (CEE Spring, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves Earth, WPWP, photowalks, youth center editathons, gender-focused events) to grow and retain our community of contributors. This also includes support for member-run activities through microgrants.

Challenges Our main challenge is maintaining a healthy and diverse community of contributors to the most important Wikimedia projects.

Our approaches and strategies Our approaches and strategies are diverse and suited to the needs of our partners and audiences: Partnership-driven: Building collaborations with community organizations, public institutions, academic institutions, etc., for active outreach and sustainability. Community-centered: Engaging new and experienced contributors through their participation in our activities. Educational integration: Incorporating Wikimedia projects in schools and universities to increase engagement of academic institutions. Through targeted workshops and educational events, we encourage teachers and students to adopt Wikipedia as a significant teaching and learning tool. Inclusive diversity: Focusing on inclusion of marginalized groups to highlight underrepresented topics and communities in our activities. Participating in annual international campaigns alongside local initiatives to connect our community to the global movement. Learning from past projects: through the grant research we are conducting in 2025 we will better understand the ecosystem of our community and how to prioritize different support needs. We will apply these lessons to shape future projects and strengthen long-term sustainability of our community.

12. Will you be working with any internal (Wikimedia) or external partners? Describe the characteristics of these partnerships and bring a few examples of the most significant partnerships. (required)

We have worked and are planning to work with both internal and external partners as they are the core of implementing our projects and activities.

Internal partnerships include collaborations with other Wikimedia affiliates and Wikimedia Movement initiatives. Each year we take part in the international CEE Spring campaign to improve Wikipedia and Wikidata articles on CEE regional topics. We have participated in the international Wikidata CoordinateMe competition developed by Wikimedia Austria and collaborated with Wikimedia Georgia to share experiences around WikiClubs and education. Other international collaborations are: Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves Living Heritage, Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos etc. These collaborations have strengthened our position and ties within the Wikimedia community.

External partnerships are very important to us in the programs of Education, GLAM and Outreach. We have increased the collaboration with schools, universities, youth centers, and educational organizations in Albania and Kosovo that have allowed us to build WikiClubs, organize editathons, and train students, teachers, and young professionals and trainers in using and contributing to Wikimedia platforms. In the GLAM program, we have worked with 2 cultural institutions in Albania and have developed several edit-a-thons with the GLAM institutions in Kosovo to increase free access to local knowledge and heritage. Moreover, we have invested in developing strong ties with international organizations and embassies. For example, we have partnered with the Swedish Embassies in Tirana and Prishtina on campaigns promoting diversity and knowledge equity. These partnerships are significant because they ensure access to new users and audiences, increase the quality and diversity of content on Wikimedia projects, and help build a stronger community.

We are not requesting any increase in compensation for existing staff roles (2 Full-Time Project Managers).

The main change in staffing for the upcoming year is the plan to hire two part-time staff members to support our education program. As this is a transition period, we are still assessing whether both part-time roles will be dedicated fully to education or whether one of the current roles will spend half of its time on education.

As the Teaching with Wikipedia program is at the initiation phase, significant development effort will be needed during the first year before we are able to fully transition these roles to direct work with teachers which will involve training and implementation support. By Year 3, this will be our most complex pillar to implement, also yielding most results.
