The change we are trying to bring is the elevation of female voices in online knowledge, specifically in the context of Northern Nigeria. We aim to create and improve women-related content on Wikipedia and its sister projects, with a focus on increasing the representation of women from Northern Nigeria.
The main challenges we are trying to solve include the underrepresentation of women on Wikipedia, particularly in the context of Northern Nigeria, as well as the lack of female editors in the Wikimedia community. By addressing these challenges, we aim to provide a platform for female voices to be heard and included in online knowledge sharing.
To achieve this, our main approach is to recruit and train new female Wikimedian editors, particularly from Northern Nigeria, to contribute to Wikipedia and its sister projects. We will provide training and support to ensure that these editors have the necessary skills and resources to create and improve women-related content. Additionally, we will work on increasing awareness and visibility of female voices in online knowledge sharing, to encourage more women to participate in the Wikimedia community.

To engage with participants before the activities, we will conduct outreach and promotion through various channels such as social media, online forums, and local community events. We will also reach out to existing female Wikimedian editors in Northern Nigeria and encourage them to participate in the project. During the activities, we will provide training sessions and workshops to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to edit and contribute to Wikipedia effectively.
After the activities, we will follow up with participants through online communication channels such as email or messaging platforms, to provide ongoing support, answer any questions they may have, and encourage continued engagement with Wikimedia projects. We will also organize follow-up events or gatherings to provide a platform for participants to share their experiences, collaborate with each other, and showcase their contributions. Additionally, we will provide resources and assistance to help participants continue their editing and content creation efforts beyond the project duration.

Learning and metrics
[edit]- 17. What do you hope to learn from your work in this project or proposal? (required)
The change we are aiming to bring through our project titled "Wikimedia Women: Elevating Female Voices in Online Knowledge" is the increased representation of female voices, specifically from Northern Nigeria, in online knowledge sharing platforms like Wikipedia. Our main goal is to create and enhance content related to women on Wikipedia and its sister projects, with a focus on addressing the underrepresentation of women in these spaces.
One of the main challenges we are trying to address is the lack of female editors, especially from Northern Nigeria, contributing to Wikipedia and similar platforms. This leads to a limited perspective and representation of women's stories and achievements in online knowledge sharing. By recruiting and training new female Wikimedian editors, particularly from Northern Nigeria, we aim to empower more women to actively participate in creating and improving content related to women on these platforms.
Our approach involves providing training and support to these female editors to enhance their skills and resources for contributing effectively. Additionally, we plan to raise awareness and visibility of female voices in online knowledge sharing to encourage more women to join the Wikimedia community. Through these efforts, we hope to elevate the representation of women from Northern Nigeria and beyond in the online knowledge landscape.
