Library is one of the most widely accepted source for reliable information. Recently, there have being a lot of efforts by the Hausa community editors in growing and developing the Hausa Wikipedia. According to Wikipedia Guidelines, A Good Article must be cited from an independent, reliables source, which makes it verifiable. References are essential part of every article, and, Articles’ Quality are key to people’s (good) perceptions about Wikipedia. Hence, one of the core objectives of 1Lib1ref campaign, “Imagine a world where every Librarian can add at least One Reference”, this is our objective, to bring Librarians, researchers, information managers etc, in Yobe state, to join and increase Verifiability of Hausa Wikipedia articles.

Internet

Internet sources are one of the major source of references for Hausa Wikipedia articles, and unfortunately, most of the local news and informations are usually hard to find on the internet, or if they are found, may be from blogs, social media post, private companies or organisations, government sites, which are not fully independent of the subject and usually not significantly covered. Plus, most of the books and Independent newspapers in Northern Nigeria publish their news on paper magazines and newspapers, ie, they seldom post online and are always available in Libraries and/museums.

Problem

i. A lot of Librarians (and information managers) are not aware of Wikipedia and that they can contribute and build Wikipedia Verifiability.

ii. There is still a gap in the reliability of (some) Hausa Wikipedia articles.

iii. Wikipedia Verifiability can be improved when more librarians contribute and add references.

iv. There is need for collaboration with Libraries for Wikimedia activities in Yobe State.

Solutions

i. visit major Libraries in Yobe State and create awarenesses on 1Lib1Ref campaign ii. Collaborate and register with at least 2 libraries to carry out in-person trainings for librarians.

iii. Invite librarians to online and face to face trainings.

iii. Train interested librarians on sourcing and how to add references from reliable sources.

iv. Motivate every librarian to add at least one reference to Wikipedia.

v. Track articles needing sources via this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Articles_lacking_sources.

v. Track contributions via #1lib1refYobe
