Grants:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/2025 Wikipedia events in various regions of Japan by User:海獺 (Racco) (ID: 22914043)/Final Report
Application type: Standard application
Part 1: Project and impact
1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

Part 2: Learning
4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)
You can recall these learning questions below:
I have created opportunities to speak about Wikipedia at over 200 events from 2013 to present. For me, this activity is not an income-generating job. I want as many people as possible to understand Wikipedia. What I want to learn is how to get event attendees interested in Wikipedia in a limited amount of time and under limited conditions, and I want to learn how to do that the more often I go.
5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)
6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)
Part 3: Metrics
7. Wikimedia Metrics results. (required)
In your application, you set some Wikimedia targets in numbers (Wikimedia metrics). In this section, you will describe the achieved results and provide links to the tools used.
| Target | Results | Comments and tools used | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Number of participants | 500 | 1750 | Event Metrics only counts participants who directly edited Wikimedia projects using their own accounts.
In this project, the number of participants also includes people who attended lectures, classes, and workshops, even if they did not directly edit Wikimedia projects. In several educational settings, participants contributed by researching topics and completing worksheets, while the organizer later reflected their work on Wikipedia due to time and technical constraints. As a result, the number of people engaged in learning and content preparation is higher than the number of editors recorded in Event Metrics. |
| Number of editors | 70 | 177 | |
| Number of organizers | 10 | 37 | For reporting purposes, one organizer was counted per event, defined as the person primarily responsible for planning and implementing the activity. |
| Wikimedia project | Target | Result - Number of created pages | Result - Number of improved pages |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wikipedia | 120 | 19 | 84 |
| Wikimedia Commons | 25 | 119 | 20 |

For this term, the grant was primarily used to cover travel and accommodation costs for events located at a distance from my place of residence, as well as transportation expenses for facilitators on three occasions. Other costs—such as administration and fees, equipment and tools, merchandise, prizes and awards, internet and services, food and beverages, communications and materials, and staff-related expenses—were provided by the event organizers as needed.
This approach reflects my effort to use the grant efficiently, enabling me to visit as many locations as possible and support organizers in holding their events. The events I attended were not organized by me, but were opportunities I accepted at the request of organizers, allowing me to promote understanding of Wikipedia across diverse venues, regardless of size.
