Change The main thing we want to do is to make Hausa Wikipedia better by putting more reliable references to the articles. Many people are using Wikipedia for knowledge, but some of the articles in Hausa Wikipedia are not trusted because they don’t have enough references. We want to change this by adding reliable sources so that people will trust Hausa Wikipedia more. Also, we want to involve librarians, students, and other people from the Hausa community to know how they can contribute and make the platform better. Challenges

  • Articles Without References: Many of the Hausa Wikipedia articles does not have proper citations like these Here. This make people not to believe in the information there.
  • Low Awareness: A lot of people, even librarians and educated people, does not know much about Hausa Wikipedia or how they can help to improve it.
  • Hausa Language is Underrepresented: When you check Hausa Wikipedia, you will see that the content is small ( Hausa Wikipedia statistics ) compare to other languages. Many important topics about our culture and history are missing.
  • Lack of Skills: Some people want to contribute but they don’t know how to edit or how to add references. This is one of the problem we are trying to solve.

Approaches

  • Training and Awareness: Conduct workshops to teach participants how to edit and add references to Hausa Wikipedia, and raise awareness about its importance.
  • Community Collaboration: Partner with local libraries, schools, and organizations to encourage participation and contribution.
  • Using Tools: Utilize tools like Citation Hunt to identify and improve articles that need references.
  • Promoting Local Knowledge: Encourage the use of Hausa-language resources for citations to preserve and promote local knowledge.
  • Continuous Support: Provide ongoing guidance to participants to ensure they remain active contributors.
  • Impact Evaluation: Track the number of articles improved, references added, and participants engaged to measure success.
7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.
