Central Kanuri is a pump station of editors dedicated to promote Wikimedia projects in Kanuri language and topics related to its people, culture, society, history and beyond. As it recently obtained it domain on the Wikipedia platform, a wider awareness is critically needed to boost the activities, Awareness campaigns, recruit new editors and train the existing editors, most especially in-some institutions of learning to cover both Academics, linguistic researchers and students on how to contribute meaningfully to Wikipedia in native Language for the development of our mother tongue which aligns with the Wikimedia Foundation 2030 movement strategy. Through the listed Institutions Sir Kashim Ibrahim College of Education Maiduguri, University Of Maiduguri (UNIMAD) Borno State University and Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri will provide not only hand on desk but a sense of belonging in achieving our plan objectives. Our task is to: 1. Raise awareness about Wikimedia project among linguistic researchers, librarians, Academics and students 2. Train at least 40 new volunteers on Wikipedia editing and content creation 3. Establish sustainable Wikimedia community in kanuri speaking region 4. Encourage contributions to Kanuri related topics on Wikimedia platform By implementing our approach, we aim to make Kanuri Wikipedia a comprehensive and reliable source of information, thereby preserving our cultural heritage for future generations and making it accessible to a global audience.

Our Plan Activities are: We will organize a series of activities to ensure the sustainability for long lasting impact: 1. Online Meetup Facilitate remote training session using Zoom meeting: This session can be structured as interactive webinar or virtual Workshop, covering fundamental topics such as navigating Wikipedia, comprehending its editing interface, citation protocols, and optimal approaches for contributing to Wikimedia projects. 2. Training Workshop/ Edit-a-thons: We will Organize 4 edit-a-thons where the participants will have full understanding and knowledge of how Central Kanuri Wikipedia works; like teaching them how to create articles from scratch, where more than 400 articles would be created, how to improve existing articles, how to add references and citations to the articles created/improved and how to translate articles from English to Kanuri using the content translation tool. 3. Partnerships: We will collaborate with institutions of learning like Sir Kashim Shettima College of Education Maiduguri, University Of Maiduguri (UNIMAD) Borno State University and Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri to ensure the authenticity and richness of the information collected. These partnerships will provide access to valuable resources and expertise, enhancing the project's overall impact. 4. Social Media Outreach and Mentorship: We will use our social media channels to share fliers and to showcase the newly created domain of the Central Kanuri Wikipedia to attract more contributors and Audiences. We will also proceed to add the participants to our opened WhatsApp and telegram group to continue mentoring and guiding the participants more in areas where they're weak and retain them through the social media channels to continue coaching and motivating them to continue contributing to Central Kanuri Wikipedia and other Wikipedia sister projects.

1. Umargana1 (Project Lead) . Details: Umargana1 is an indigenous language advocate and experience editor in central kanuri Wikipedia who has facilitate and lead so many projects, such as vitals articles creation in central kanuri incubator. Central kanuri awareness. Central kanuri Wikipedia outreach, he is also a Co- Founder of Central kanuri Wikipedia and he play a role of vice Chairman in the community administration team. . Responsibility: I will lead the event, overseeing all aspects of the project to ensure its success and align with the project plan activities. 2. Fulani215 (Project Facilitator) . Details: is a long-term volunteer Wikimedian editor, language advocate, content creator. Fulani215 have been administrator at Fulfulde Wikipedia to oversee the community development and clean all the minor mistakes made by the volunteers in the community, He has organized numerous Wikimedia campaigns that support indigenous language promotions in his community and beyond . Responsibility: His role will involve training participants in basic writing articles, minor edit mistakes, citing good references from reliable sources among others. 3. Banabulama ( project Anchor) Details: Banabulama is a senior Wikipedia editor in Central Kanuri, who has create and edit many articles related to kanuri language and other indigenous languages across Africa, his expertises and dedication will not only shave the project rather will give our young coming editors a hope in promoting their mother tongue through Wikipedia foundation project. . Responsibility: He will anchor the program and engage all of our editors both the newly recruited and the existential editors through out the project period. 4. Mustybdc: (Project Communication and Logistics Officer) Details: is an experience editor with deep knowledge in project management and community building that he work tirelessly in seeing Central Kanuri Wikipedia obtains its domain from incubators. Mustybdc expertise in leadership, community building and project management put together will enable him to develop a clear project vision. .Responsibility: He will be in charge of all Communications and Logistics that will be required for a successful programme. As an energetic role model and mentor of most young people, his effort will go a long way for successful projects implementation

This project aims to work with community leaders, Kanuri Indigenous Researchers, Academics, and Students of learning from Sir Kashim Shettima College of Education, University of Maiduguri( UNIMAD), Borno State University and Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri to harness the project partnerships to recruit new participants that would join in the campaign activities. Beyond the communities, the campaign is also open to other wikimedia communities and wikimedians in Nigeria with interest to participate in the activities. Different communication channels such as Whatsapp group will be used by local community as a means to onboard and engage participants. Project Discussions Idea with Community Members We discussed the project idea with all the facilitators involved, ensuring that everyone contributed their insights and suggestions for effective planning.Additionally The idea was discussed on our telegram channel while celebrating getting our own domain on Wikipedia platform. All the community members are happy with the idea and willing to give their contributions. This helped us align our activities with ongoing Wikimedia efforts in the community, ensuring collaboration and strong impact. Engaging the community early has allowed us to refine our approach and make the project more inclusive and effective.

1. We are hoping to learn What becomes of a new community after hosting a successful project 2. We hope to learn the Impact of mentoring in project organizing and coordination. 3. We also hope to learn the Bridge gap by creating more articles related to Kanuri Language and Improve the skill in article creation and knowledge of Kanuri culture, History and Heritage. 4. We also want to see how students, Kanuri Linguistic researchers, Academics, and other participants respond to Wikimedia projects and what challenges they face. These insights will guide us in improving future projects and making Wikimedia more accessible in similar directions.
