Despite being the second largest continent, Africa's stories, places, and cultures remain under-documented. Rwanda, like many other African countries, faces a significant deficiency particularly in terms of content representation on Wikipedia.
The wiki challenge 2025 in Rwanda aims to empower youth and new editors and existing wikimedians in Rwanda to contribute to open knowledge about African culture, the environment, and local stories. Currently, Rwanda’s presence on Wikipedia is still limited and local participation in Wikimedia campaigns continues to grow.
As part of this challenge, we will host a series of training workshops, writing contest and edit-a-thons to equip participants with the skills needed to contribute high-quality content aligned with the Africa Wiki Challenge 2025 which is under theme “Reclaiming our Narrative: Justice for Africans and the Diaspora through Reparation.”

A one-day training session will be organized for new Wikimedians to introduce them to Wikimedia, explain how they can contribute to free knowledge on Wikipedia, and guide them on how to participate in the Africa Wiki Challenge.
