Part 1: Project and impact

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

During the implementation of the Africa Wiki Challenge 2025 in Rwanda, we held a campaign launch that included an edit-a-thon and a workshop aimed at introducing the campaign to participants and encouraging contributions. We conducted a training session on how to edit Wikipedia, contribute to Wikidata, and upload images to Wikimedia Commons.

We encouraged all participants to continue contributing beyond the event. For new editors, we recommended joining the Wikimedia Community User Group Rwanda. We also collaborated with the media to publish articles with the aim of raising awareness among contributors who were unable to attend the physical session.

As a result, participants successfully edited Wikipedia and Wikidata, and uploaded images to Wikimedia Commons.

Part 2: Learning

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below:  Which outreach and engagement strategies worked best for our local community, we will learn if physical workshops more engaging than virtual ones.

 We will learn if new wikimedian can create a content with quality aligned with Wikimedia standards, challenges they face and how to support them.

 How we can work with partners to improve Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

1. Outreach and Engagement Strategies: We observed that physical workshops were more engaging than virtual sessions for our local community.

2. Quality of Content from New Wikimedians: New contributors were able to create articles aligned with Wikimedia standards when provided with step-by-step training, mentorship, and follow-up support. Their main challenges included navigating technical aspects of editing, referencing reliable sources, and building confidence in their contributions.

3. Partnerships for Impact: we worked with a media house to raise awareness, which significantly increased visibility of the campaign, attracted new participants, and created positive public perception of Wikimedia projects.

How we will use these learnings in future:

1. We will establish structured mentorship programs to support new editors and ensure long-term participation.

2. Prioritize in-person workshops while using online platforms for continuity.

3. partner with media organizations to expand reach, and raise awareness.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

Positive surprise:

Our collaboration with a local media house generated more visibility than expected

Negative surprise:

The challenge was ensuring consistency in quality contributions from new editors. some needed closer follow-up to meet Wikimedia’s standards.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

1. We will document outcomes and reflections on community Social media accounts, WhatsApp group to ensure both local and regional Wikimedians can access the learnings.

2. provide report through wmx.fluxx.io

Already Done:
