In Burundi, knowledge about local culture, history, geography, and notable figures is missing or underrepresented on Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata. Many aspects of Burundi’s rich heritage, important personalities, historical events, natural sites, and cultural practices are not yet documented online or are poorly represented, leading to a major gap in the global knowledge ecosystem. The change I am trying to bring is to increase the visibility and representation of Burundian knowledge on Wikimedia projects through the Africa Wiki Challenge 2025. we will to contribute by creating and improving articles, and adding structured data about Burundi to Wikidata. This will help to ensure that Burundi’s stories, heritage, and realities are preserved and accessible to a global audience. The main challenges I am trying to solve are: 1.Lack of content about Burundi on Wikimedia projects. 2.Limited awareness and skills among the Burundian population on how to contribute to Wikimedia projects. 3.Language barriers, as much of the available content is not accessible in Kirundi, the main languages spoken in Burundi. 4.Limited access to technology and internet among potential contributors, which slows down participation.
