History is the systematic study of the past, focusing primarily on the human past. The role of history on humans can not be denied. History enhances our grasp of the world, shedding light on cultural diversity, social dynamics, and geopolitical complexities. It helps us see how past events influence the present and guides us in making informed decisions. The African history is particularly important for us to know more about ourselves, our identity, and our culture. The African continent has suffered greatly due to centuries of slavery, colonisation, and exploitation. The effects of these has affected the documentation of original history and as such many African related histories has being lost. There are many efforts made to revive the African history, especially on Wikipedia - initiatives such as Wiki Loves Africa etc are part of this struggle. In Nigeria, many of it’s pre-independent histories are not properly documented (especially on Hausa Wikipedia). Most of the pre-colonial histories are not present on Wiki. Many geographical and social and economic histories are absent

This project is aimed at diving deep into History and adding information/articles, photos, on Wikipedia and Commons. We are aiming at: • Increasing the visibility and awareness of the African history. it is highly important to make African history more visible, more especially in this high time. • Connections: we will collaborate with museums, national archives and some historians in Nigeria, to document African related histories • Create space for editors and like-minds to effectively add African histories to Wikipedia • Recruit historians and like-minded individuals to Wikipedia • Engage photographers who are interested in documenting pictures about African histories on Wiki Commons
